Saturday 11th August 1230hrs Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur Football – England – Premier League  With all the millions being spent by most Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window, the lunchtime kick off on Saturday sees two teams who been amongst the lowest spenders – indeed nothing in Spurs’ case. There’s real unhappiness amongst the Newcastle faithful with what they see as a failure from owner Mike Ashley to give the required funds to manager Rafael Benitez. All the attention will turn to what’s happening on the pitch however when the first whistle goes and Newcastle host Tottenham at St James’ Park – read on for the best betting tip from this encounter.

Benitez is something of a hero on Tyneside having stayed on at the club following their relegation to the Championship, winning promoting at the first time of asking and then being able to keep Newcastle safe on their return to the top flight. They were comfortably placed in mid table come the end of the season and the hope was that Ashley would back his manager and enable Benitez to strengthen a limited looking group of players. Many see the reason for their success last season as being as a result of the Spaniard’s coaching ability and would be concerned at that proving to be enough again with rival teams spending so much. He has worked well with the money he has had to spend and the signing of Salomon Rondon will give them more presence up top whilst Fabian Schar is a shrewd addition in defence.

Tottenham have been excellent under Mauricio Pochettino and it appears that owner Daniel Levy is placing his faith in his coach being able to lead Spurs to another successful campaign. The North London club are the only Premier League outfit who have bought a player this summer, becoming the first to do so since the introduction of a transfer window. In this day and age it’s a massive surprise as a lack of strengthening is not seen as standing still, rather it’s seen as falling behind. The only player that was continuously linked with a move to the club was Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish but Villa were determined to keep their star asset. Although there could still be a danger of some key players being poached by clubs from the continent, on a more positive note it appears Tottenham have been able to keep hold of their star players, including Harry Kane. With White Hart Lane still not quite ready Spurs will use Wembley and play three of their four first on the road – that will not be ideal in such a competitive looking league.

Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur Betting Tip

With few summer signings between these two we at least know what to expect from Newcastle and Tottenham compared to some of the other games taking place this weekend. Both will be led by excellent coaches who are worth so much over the course of a season. Come the end of the campaign we can expect to see these two separated by a few points just as they were last season. That won’t deter the hosts from making this as difficult as possible as they did on the opening day 12 months ago. Spurs ran out 2-0 winners on the occasion and I would be inclined to believe that this one may finish in a similar fashion. The visitor’s team will include a number of the players who were a major part in getting England to a World Cup final and will be buoyed by that. They may have to wait – as the did last year – but take Spurs to get their season off to a winning start at St James’ Park for the second successive season.
