Newcastle Preview – Can Magpies end a decent season on a high with their first win in six games?

There was much dissent amongst Newcastle supporters when Steve Bruce replaced Rafa Benitez last summer but it’s hard to argue with what Bruce has been able to achieve. Newcastle are one point behind last season’s tally with this final game to come and although that might remain the same, they’ve never been in relegation bother since the first few weeks of the campaign.

Whether that’s good enough for the Toon Army going forward remains to be seen but their current position of 13th is as realistic as you could expect for a squad of this quality.

It could have been even better for Bruce and his players had they not hit a wall in these last couple of weeks. Newcastle come into this game with no wins in their last five – taking just two points since beating Bournemouth at the beginning of July. They would have hoped to have picked up more points having faced the likes of Watford, West Ham and Brighton in that time.

Newcastle’s home form has been strong throughout the season with just four defeats in 18. The loss to Tottenham in their most recent game at St James’ was the first defeat in seven home games.

Liverpool Preview – Are the champions set to cap a magnificent campaign with their 32nd win of the season?

They may not be able to reach a record points total but Liverpool will look back on this season as one of their most dominant. They have brought an end to 30 years waiting for their next league title and have done it with ease. There might have been some slips in recent weeks but Jurgen Klopp and his players have still been able to find an intensity about their game that nobody has been able to come close to over the space of a 38 game season.

Wednesday’s win over Chelsea meant they could celebrate the trophy presentation in style and come into this match chasing a club record 99 points.

Klopp has resisted making wholesale changes in games, instead giving the players who have been incredibly consistent for the past two years the chance to play out the campaign. There has been some frustration with their results away from home of late, managing just one win in their last five away matches in the Premier League. Klopp will be hoping his team put that right here.

The golden boot looks beyond Mohammed Salah now. The Egyptian needs four to draw level with Jamie Vardy having not scored in this last three games.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Betting Advice

It’s a fixture that is synonymous with the Premier League but unlike many in the past. There’s not much on this one other than both teams wanting to end the campaign with a win.  Liverpool have won their last four against Newcastle including a narrow victory in the penultimate game of last season.

Four of the last six meetings have also had at least four goals in them – maintaining the trend as the highest scoring fixture in the Premier League.

Key Facts – Newcastle vs Liverpool Betting Tip

  • Newcastle have taken just two points in their last five games and will finish in the bottom half of the table
  • Klopp’s Liverpool have won only one of their last five away games in the league, scoring in just two of them
  • Liverpool have won the last four meetings against Newcastle, last losing in 2015

Liverpool’s last four games have seen both teams scoring which is an indication of how they have approached those matches. There’s no reason this game is going to be any different. Both teams to score has been a winner in four of the last six games between these two, as well.
