Premier League side Newcastle have to have been over the moon with this fourth round draw in the FA Cup. They have home soil advantage on Saturday against a side from League One.

So the cards have fallen very nicely for the Magpies who are the red-hot odds-on favourites to book their place in the next round.

A stress-free afternoon for the Magpies on Tyneside?

Steve Bruce’s Newcastle had a few wobbles in December. However, they are now unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions (W2 D3). That run of form started with a nervy 1-1 away draw at Rochdale in the third round fo the FA Cup. But then Newcastle made light of the replay back at St James’ Park, beating the Dale 4-1.

Newcastle have enjoyed a pretty good season on home turf. They have only lost three times there this season, all league games against Arsenal, Everton and Leicester. They have won six of their last ten played there (D2 L2). Newcastle have only failed to score in one of their last ten home fixtures across all competitions as well.

Newcastle have only lost one of their last five FA Cup home games. That was against Watford at this stage of last season’s campaign (W3 D1). They have actually won five of their last eight such fixtures at St James’s Park, scoring at least two goals in each of the successes in that sequence of games. There are certainly a lot tougher draws that the Magpies could have landed, an upset doesn’t look too likely.

Can Oxford pull off another Cup win over Newcastle?

There is an interesting spin here, however. The last meeting between the two clubs happened in January 2017 in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Newcastle were out on the road on those occasions and they got things horribly wrong, suffering a 3-0 loss against the U’s. The overall head to head sees Newcastle down at W6 D5 L7. This will be just the second meeting between them in the FA Cup.

Oxford are on something of a promotion push in League One, sitting inside the play off places. Their form has deserted them a bit there recently, only going D2 L2 in their last four played. The U’s have only picked up four wins in their last twelve games across all competitions.

In this season’s FA Cup Crowd took an away win at Hayes in the first round proper before following that up with a win at Walsall. They did have that tremendous run in the EFL Cup this season.

Oxford reached the quarter finals where they lost 1-3 against Man City. In that campaign they hammered Premier League side West Ham 4-0 but that was in a home game. Oxford are W4 L1 in their last five FA Cup away games.

Newcastle vs Oxford Betting Advice

So there was that famous win for Oxford over Newcastle just back in the fourth round of the 2017 FA Cup. The U’s will be using that as motivation for this trip to the northeast, however, it is tough to see them getting the victory.

Key Facts – Newcastle vs Oxford Betting Tip

  • Newcastle have only lost three home games in all competitions this season
  • Newcastle are unbeaten in five games in all competitions (W2 D3)
  • Oxford won the one previous FA Cup meeting which was in 2017

The home win would have to be supported in this fixture and with Oxford looking as if they have just run out of steam a little bit for the season, a Newclaste to win to nil option rings out with appeal.
