Nicaragua Prediction- Can Nicaragua halt Haiti’s progress?

Nicaragua started their Gold Cup campaign in disastrous fashion as they were handed a heavy 4-0 defeat by Costa Rica in their Group B opener.

They now face surprise package, Haiti, who sit in 2nd place in Group B following their 2-1 opening group win over Bermuda.

A heavy 5-1 loss to Argentina prior to their Gold Cup campaign wasn’t an ideal way to head into this tournament, and they face a tough task on Thursday night.

Although Nicaragua registered a couple of wins in last September’s CONCACAF Nations League, they’ll do well to get anything from this clash with Haiti.

Last September victories over St. Vincent and Grenadines 2-0 away and a 6-0 home win against Anguilla were welcome victories, but overall form has been poor.

Just 4 wins from their last 17 matches in all competitions shows that Nicaragua could well struggle to keep pace with the rest of Group B in this Gold Cup.

In addition, results away from home have also been poor as Nicaragua have recorded just 2 away wins from their last 20 matches on their travels.

Haiti Prediction – Can Haiti build on encouraging start?

Haiti made a triumphant start to their Gold Cup campaign in the United States with a 2-1 win over Bermuda in their opening match in Group B.

That recent win made it back-to-back wins for the Islanders as they’d previously recorded a 3-1 win over Guyana just prior to the tournament starting.

Despite losing back-to-back international friendlies with El Salvador and Chile, it’s 3 wins from their last 5 matches overall which should bring them confidence here.

An earlier 2-1 home win over Cuba back in March should also help boost Haiti ahead of their Thursday night date with Nicaragua.

In addition, Haiti have held the upper hand against Nicaragua historically as they’ve won 4 of the 5 meetings to date between these two sides.

In the previous meeting back in November of last year, Haiti registered a 2-0 win away at Nicaragua at the Estadio Nacional de Fútbol.

Haiti forward, Frantzdy Pierrot (2 goals) is Haiti’s leading goalscorer so far in this tournament, and he’ll no doubt be keen to add to his goal tally here.
