Nimes Preview – Can Nimes win back-to-back?
Nimes registered a desperately needed three points with their recent 2-0 home win against Reims on the weekend in Ligue 1 but Wednesday night’s hosts still remain second from bottom and in the relegation zone of the French top flight.
Nevertheless, this recent victory would have been a welcome boost for Nimes as they’d previously 4 defeats on the trot and went without a league win from their previous 12 matches overall in Ligue 1.
Recent losses to Bordeaux 6-0, Lyon 4-0, Nantes 1-0 and a 3-1 loss to Marseille means that Nimes had conceded a total of 14 goals and scored just 1 in reply during this particularly bad slump in form, so to keep a clean sheet last time out would have been a great boost.
But can Nimes build on this result? Their home record reads a fairly average looking 3-2-4 9/10 and with just 3 wins out of their last 10 matches on home turf at their Stade des Costières, the hosts haven’t exactly been convincing.
RennesPreview – Can Rennes bounce back?
3rd placed Rennes have certainly been the revelation so far in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign as the visitors currently occupy the Champions League qualifier spot and will no doubt be keen to return to winning ways this Wednesday evening in order to hold onto this position.
However, defeat last time out at home to Marseille in a 1-0 loss on home turf at their Roazhon Park will hopefully have served as something of a wake-up call to Rennes as fears of complacency may have crept in following an impressive 5-match winning streak.
Recent wins against Saint-Etienne, Metz, Angers, Lyon and Bordeaux though will have given Rennes plenty of confidence and the visitors will no doubt fancy their chances of returning to winning ways this Wednesday night against lowly Nimes.
An away record of 4-2-3 9/7 looks reasonable enough and includes winning their last two away matches on the trot while midfielder Hunou (5 goals) and forward Niang (8 goals) look the most likely for Rennes.
