The Championship Round in the Danish top flight continues on Monday night and my next pick features hosts Nordsjaelland, taking on Copenhagen at the very aptly names, Right to Dream Park in Farum with the hosts daring to dream of a Europa League qualification spot.
Home advantage looks like being Nordsjaelland’s best chance of attaining the all important third place in this second phase of the domestic Danish season, but with just a slender one point lead over tonight’s opponents, Copenhagen, the hosts know they can’t afford to lose this one.
Following three defeats on the trot to Brondby (home and away) and an away defeat at Midtjylland, Nordsjaelland have recovered somewhat with a 2-1 home win over Horsens with which was followed up by a point in a 0-0 draw away at AaB.
The home side have suffered just two defeats from their last 12 matches on home turf, and they registered a convincing 3-0 home win over Copenhagen in their last meeting back in August of last year. Midfielder Jensen (12 goals) and forward Asante (16 goals) are the main threats for the hosts.
Copenhagen were dealt a very disappointing 2-0 loss at home by Midtjylland last weekend which became back-to-back defeats for the visitors following a previous 1-0 loss away from home at AaB, so they make their way to Farum looking to avoid a third defeat on the bounce.
The story doesn’t get much better for Copenhagen away from home either as they’ve lost three of their four matches away from home in this Championship Round phase with losses to Midtjylland, Brondby and AaB.
Their only success on their travels to date in this round has been a 3-2 win away at Horsens who are bottom of the Championship group, and with an away record of 1-0-3 6/8 to their name so far, Copenhagen may find this a tough assignment this evening.
