NORTHAMPTON TOWN v SHREWSBURY TOWN

Football – England – League One Betting Tips

A 3-0 defeat at home on Saturday afternoon to high-flying Rotherham United saw Northampton Town drop into the bottom four of League One, and they look to be facing an even bigger test on Tuesday night despite holding home advantage at Sixfields Stadium when they welcome second placed Shrewsbury Town.

The home side are without a league win from their last five attempts, suffering defeats to Gillingham and Rotherham United, and although The Cobblers gained points in draws with Scunthorpe United, Oxford United and Bristol Rovers, manager, Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, is now starting to experience the harsh reality which his team faces.

Hasselbaink got off to a flyer in September when he took over the reigns, recording back-to-back wins over Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth, but his side have since experienced peaks and troughs, and now find themselves fighting a relegation battle. Their home record stands at  6-3-10  15/28, lost three of their last four at home, and have the second worst goal scoring record at home in League One to date.

In stark contrast, all three points for Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night would see The Shrews move back to the top of League One at Blackburn Rovers’ expense, and the visitors collected a third consecutive win on Saturday with a 2-1 win away at fifth placed Scunthorpe United, so confidence is riding high.

Shrewsbury currently occupy second place in League One and they thoroughly deserve their lofty league position, and also deserve to be taken very seriously in terms of automatic promotion now. In addition, Shrewsbury have proved they’re not just a team that hold a good home record, they’ve also performed on their travels as well, with five wins on the bounce on the road amidst an overall record of  11-5-3  25/17.

Having beaten the likes of Portsmouth, Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood Town, Charlton Athletic and Scunthorpe United, The Shrews will aim for six on the trot here.
