Nottingham Forest bounced back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat away at Stoke City on the weekend when they registered a convincing 3-0 home win over Hull City which maintained Martin O’Neill’s side’s hopes of claiming a top six finish.
Just one defeat from their last six matches overall in the Championship have moved Nottingham Forest to within two points of 6th placed Bristol City with tonight’s hosts sitting in 8th place, but another home match here gives them an opportunity to stake serious claims for a place in the play-off pack.
Recent wins against bitter east midlands rivals, Derby County along with the aforementioned win over Hull City have further boosted Nottingham Forest’s home record which now stands at a very reasonable looking 10-4-4 26/15, where the hosts have won their last four matches on the trot.
Wins over Wigan Athletic, Brentford, Derby County and Hull City have lifted Forest to within striking distance of the play-off pack.

Aston Villa will head over to the City Ground in Nottingham full of confidence after recording a hard-fought 1-0 win in the local derby away at fierce rivals, Birmingham City, which was overshadowed by an unsavoury incident involving Villa captain, Jack Grealish.
However, Grealish had the last laugh when he slotted home to give Aston Villa a precious three points and this could be the platform that Villa have been craving upon which to mount a final push for a play-off spot.
It’s now three matches without defeat for the visitors who have picked up a point in a 1-1 draw away at Stoke City followed by back-to-back wins against Derby County and Birmingham City and it’s no coincidence that Villa’s recent resurgence has happened since Grealish returned from injury.
However, with Villa still four points adrift of 6th placed Bristol City, there’s still plenty of work ahead for Dean Smith’s side, in addition to improving an away record that stands at a fairly average looking 5-7-6 21/21 and includes just one away win from their last six matches on the road.
