Nottingham Forest Preview – Can Forest get back on track?
It was a disappointing start to the new Championship season for Nottingham Forest who appeared to be still suffering from the hangover and disappointment of missing out on an almost certain play-off spot at the end of last season, as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat away at QPR, managed by their former boss, Mark Warburton.
That loss at QPR became Nottingham Forest’s fourth defeat on the trot in all competitions and indeed, the hosts have now failed to win any of their last eight matches overall which include defeats to Fulham, Barnsley and Stoke City in the Championship as well as an early League Cup exit to Barnsley.
The prospects of a straight win here for the hosts therefore appear to be unlikely even though manager, Sabri Lamouchi desperately needs all three points here, but 13 of Forest’s 23 home matches last term resulted in under 2.5 goals and we could see another mis-firing Forest outfit here this Saturday lunchtime against another former player, Neil Harris and his Cardiff side.
Cardiff City Preview – Can Cardiff bounce back?
Saturday lunchtime’s visitors, Cardiff City, also suffered defeat on the opening day of the new Championship season last weekend when they lost 2-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday in what was a slightly surprising reverse for The Bluebirds.
Cardiff City finished last season’s Championship campaign in promising form as the Welsh outfit recorded four wins from their final five matches of the season which earned them a 5th place finish and a place in the play-offs, but a 3-2 loss on aggregate against eventually promoted Fulham ended Cardiff’s dream of a return to the Premier League.
However, with just two defeats out of their final 10 away matches of last season, Cardiff City look a tough prospect for this out-of-sorts Nottingham Forest outfit, especially as The Bluebirds recorded 1-0 win in their last visit to the City Ground back in early December.
