Things have gotten very exciting at the ATP Finals 2020 in London.

A loss for Novak Djokovic in his second round robin match has left him scrambling.

The world number one has to win this fixture to have a chance at getting to the semi finals.

So this is an all-or-nothing final fixture for both of these as his opponent Zverev is in exactly the same boat.

Novak Djokovic Preview – Will there be a response from Djokovic?

At the start of his second round-robin match at the ATP Finals, world number one Novak Djokovic appeared to be in good shape.

He started well against Daniil Medvedev but then the errors started creeping in.

After the Russian had weathered an early Djokovic storm, he pulled away from the world number one.

Djokovic went down in straight sets 6-3 6-3 in a shock upset.

That was after he had comfortably beaten Diego Schwartzman in his opening fixture of this tournament.

So now he faces a fight for survival. It will have similar pressure to a final because if Djokovic loses, he goes home.

In the tennis betting outright for this game however, Djokovic is the 1/3 odds-on favourite* (odds taken 05:27 GMT on Thursday, 19th November).

The loss against Medvedev was just the fourth loss of the season for Djokovic.

But three of the losses have been in his last three tournaments played now. So there are perhaps, a few surprising cracks.

Our betting prediction:
Djokovic 6-3 first set score
4/1

That’s because Djokovic was in phenomenal form when the season was restarted.

The Serbian does hold a positive head to head lead over Friday’s opponent Zverev.

But that is only a narrow 3-2 head to head lead. It will be the first meeting of the two players this year.

Interestingly the two met at the 2018 ATP Finals, with Djokovic winning the group stage match.

But then he fell in the final to Zverev in straight sets.

A Djokovic 2-0 in set betting is at 5/6* (odds taken 05:27 GMT on Thursday, 19th November).

Alexander Zverev Preview – Can Zverev send Djokovic packing?

Alexander Zverev opened his 2020 ATP Finals challenge with a match against Daniil Medvedev.

The German lost that one in straight sets. With Djokovic waiting in his final round-robin match, that looked like a costly loss for Zverev early on.

He responded as he needed to in his second match with a win over Diego Schwartzman.

But Medvedev’s subsequent win over Djokovic means that Zverev faces huge pressure here to try and get through to the final four.

Alexander Zverev is the 12/5 underdog for the match win* (odds taken 05:27 GMT on Thursday, 19th November).

In that second match against Schwartzman, there was a bit of struggle for Zverev in the second set, letting that one slip.

The serving of Zverev, notably his second serve, just hasn’t looked up to scratch for most of 2020.

It was his big undoing against Medvedev in that opener. It is going to be a lot to ask for him to pull that together against Djokovic.

The winner of this match will go forward to face Dominic Thiem in the semi finals.

Alexander Zverev has a pretty good track record at the ATP Finals. There was that 2018 title success over Djokovic.

Then last year on his title defence he did make it through to the final four, securing a crucial win over Rafa Nadal.

The German is one of the better indoor players and won a title at the bett1HULKS Indoors last month.

Zverev did have a bit of form coming into the ATP Finals, having been the runner up at the Paris Masters earlier this month to Medvedev.

He was also the runner up of the US Open this year as well, to Thiem. Can he raise a huge effort?

Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev Betting Advice

So Zverev is up and running in London with that win over Schwartzman. It wasn’t the smooth, comfortable win it was expected to be.

After coming up short against Medvedev in his opening match, we can’t help but feel that he won’t quite have enough to take down Djokovic.

In fact, we don’t see the German getting a set on the board, because of his lack of second serve which will probably be punished by Djokovic.

Key Facts – Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev Betting Tip

  • Novak Djokovic holds W3 L2 record against Zverev
  • The winner of this match will go through to the semi finals to meet Dominic Thiem
  • Alexander Zverev beat Djokovic in the final of ATP Finals 2018

That loss against Medvedev will have hurt Djokovic and after such a good start, it was surprising to see him fall away and have the errors creep in.

He’ll likely get back focused and be on point right out of the gate in this one.

We would be confident enough to go with a Djokovic 2-0 set betting option at 5/6* (odds taken 05:27 GMT on Thursday, 19th November).
