Canada’s Milos Raonic has been storming his way through the Australian Open. He had a difficult time of things last season because of injury and loss of form, but he has been sharp in Melbourne.
But now he gets arguably the toughest draw of all. He faces Novak Djokovic against who, Raonic is winless in nine previous matches against. Raonic has won only two sets previously against Djokovic.

Can Raonic turn the tables on Djokovic?
Ranked at 32nd in the world, Milos Raonic was not expected to run as deep as he has done at the 2020 Australian Open. He has some big disruptions last season because of injury, missing a whole three months at one point in the middle of the year. So he had a long way back working his way back up to a high, competitive level as well. Being in a difficult section of this draw, it has been even more surprising.
After winning in straight sets in his opening two matches, he was an underdog in the third round for his match against world number six Stefanos Tsitisipas. But Raonic, thanks to a great display of serving power, Raonic powered through. He did the same in the fourth round when he was up against former Australian Open winner Marin Cilic. So that’s no dropped sets from him.
But maybe the progress should not have been that big of a surprise. This is now the fifth time in his last six Australian Open appearances that he has made at least the quarter-finals.
His best ever effort at Melbourne Park happened in 2016 when he was a losing semi-finalist. He is one of the biggest servers on the ATP and that is going to be his main source of both attack and defence in pressure situations.
Djokovic has not hit top gear yet in Melbourne
Novak Djokovic may as well have been given a pass straight through to the quarterfinals of the tournament. It’s been that easy for him. Aside from a dropped set in his opener (never looking in danger of losing of course), it has been plain sailing.
Djokovic has not even looked at his fluent best at the tournament so far, not having needed to. That’s a worrying thing for the rest of the field that everyone knows that he can raise his levels when he needs to.

So the head to head is 9-0 in favour of the world number two Novak Djokovic against Raonic. Remarkably through all of that Djokovic has dropped just the two sets through those meetings. Their most recent meeting was in 2018 with Djokovic winning 2-1 in Ohio at the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati event.
They did meet in the Australian Open in 2015 at the quarter-finals stage it was a straight-sets success for Djokovic. Their one other meeting in a Slam was at Roland Garros 2014 with the same result.
Novak Djokovic vs Milos Raonic Betting Advice
The head to head tells the tale in a gulf in class between the two players. Djokovic is just so dominant and part of the key to that is his defence and getting control back against the massive serves that Raonic throws down.
