The final of the ATP Dubai tournament will see Novak Djokovic lineup against Tsitsipas. Djokovic is undefeated in 2020 and that is the size of the task ahead for Tsitsipas who returns to the showcase match after falling in last year’s final to Roger Federer.

Will Djokovic remain unbeaten?

He came into the tournament as the top seed, world number one and outright favourite for the ATP Dubai title. It was expected to be a fairly routine tournament for Djokovic and in many ways, it has been. He didn’t drop a set on his way to the semi-finals.

In the final four, he met the in-form Gael Monfils who had recently picked up a couple of titles. Djokovic was on the ropes in that semi-final as well and had to see off three match points in the second set to stick in there.

Once Djokovic had survived through a tie-break, he powered his way to a 6-1 success in the final set. That is a total of nine sets that he has played in Dubai this year. Only two of those has he conceded more than three games.

There is none better in the game at seeing off pressure than Djokovic and he improved his head to head record against Monfils to 17-0. The current streak of form that Djokovic is on is 20 straight match wins and that is the seventh time that he has achieved that in his career.

Our betting prediction:
Djokovic 2-0

(odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 8 January)

In 2020 Djokovic is 17-0 including ATP Cup matches for Serbia. The biggest win streak of his career happened in 2010/11 incidentally, when he won 43 matches on the bounce. The head to head between Djokovic and Tsitsipas is 2-2.

Tsitsipas back for more in Dubai championship match

Stefanos Tsitipas made last year’s ATP Dubai final where he lost in straight sets to Roger Federer. The Nitto ATP Finals champion will be hoping for better this time around. He is now on an eight-match winning streak this year.

Tsitsipas, who successfully defended a title in Marseille last week, has come into form. Aside from a scare against Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round, where Tsitsipas really struggled to get any momentum going, it’s been relatively comfortable for him too.

He was up against England’s Dan Evans in the semi-final and Tsitsipas was back in form. Importantly ahead of a clash with Djokovic, the Greek star had a comfortable time in beating Evans 6-2, 6-3 so that will at least have kept him fresh for the challenge ahead.

The last time that Djokovic and Tstistipas met was at the ATP Masters 1000 Paris last year and Djokovic made light work of the quarter-final tie. Interestingly, Djokovic’s two wins over Tsitsipas have both been in straight sets, while Tsitsipas has won his two matches against Djokovic over three sets.

Novak Djokovic vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Advice

All players have a little blip, a little struggle here and there in matches, no matter how great they are. Djokovic had his wobble in the semi-finals against Monfils, and it just so rare to see him have consecutive off-days.

Key Facts – Novak Djokovic vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Tip

  • Novak Djokovic is on a 20 match winning streak
  • Novak Djokovic saved 3 match points in his semi-final against Gael Monfils
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas lost last year’s Dubai final

The way that he closed out the match in the final set against Monfils after fending off three match points, showed everything great about him. He just had further gears to go up through that his opponent couldn’t match.

Tsitsipas can be pretty pleased with his work this week and he has come into great form for the year. But still, at least 8 times out of 10 you would expect him to lose against Djokovic. We’ll follow the trend of a Djokovic 2-0.
