Osasuna Preview – Arrasate’s stubborn side no pushovers?

The 2018/19 Segunda Division champions showed again that there is no inferiority complex among the collective, largely holding their own at Real Sociedad’s Anoeta Stadium to claim a deserved share of the spoils following a 1-1 draw on Sunday. Osasuna (11th – W8 D11 L9) didn’t create an awful lot from open play, though. Ultimately, they were reliant on a penalty, converted midway through the first half by forward Adrian, to get on the scoresheet.

Back in more customary settings, Los Rojillos should find stamping their mark on proceedings comes more naturally. Jagoba Arrasate’s side producing better results (W5 D5 L4) and averaging more goals scored (20 vs 15) when at home this season, where none of the current top-six sides in the La Liga standings successfully managed to prevent Osasuna from finding the net on their own patch.

However, those results against the supposedly better sides have certainly varied at El Sadar. Barcelona (2-2) and Sevilla (1-1) were both held. Conversely, Real Madrid (1-4) and Real Sociedad (3-4) both departed with maximum points after scoring four each. The only real highlight so far being victory over seventh-placed Valencia, beating Los Che 3-1 but only after falling behind inside fifteen minutes.

Atletico Madrid Preview – Progress stunted by excessive draws?

These draws are seriously mounting up. Sunday’s stalemate in Bilbao, finishing 1-1 at San Mames courtesy of Diego Costa’s equaliser shortly before half-time, made it three in as many league games and took their tally for the season to 13. It begs the question, how much better off would Atletico Madrid (6th – W11 D13 L4) be were more of those draws converted into wins? A lot higher than sixth, that is for sure.

As things stand, not even a top-four finish – something normally perceived as a given – is guaranteed. Diego Simeone’s charges siting a point shy of fourth but among a clutch of teams all vying for two positions. They’re still favourites to come good before the season concludes, however, there must surely be more appealing alternatives than a side with two wins across its last nine league fixtures (W2 D5 L2).

Defence – keeping a robust, well-organised shaped whilst working harder than anybody else – used to be Atletico’s forte. This season, though, that simply isn’t the case. Athletic Bilbao are among the bluntest attacks in La Liga but still breached Atleti’s brittle rearguard, which has now gone five successive league games without a clean sheet and managed only one on the road in ten previous attempts.

Osasuna Vs Atletico Madrid Betting Advice

Atletico Madrid are having to work to secure Champions League football this season. Simeone’s men could certainly do with a win on Wednesday, after managing only two in their last nine La Liga fixtures. Meanwhile, Simeone’s men haven’t won on the road since December (W2 D3 since). So there could be value in a Osasuna result, with the hosts beaten on just four occasions in fourteen home outings so far.

Osasuna Vs Atletico Madrid – Key Facts

  • Both teams were held on their seasonal reappearance: Osasuna drawing 1-1 in Real Socided while Atletico Madrid were held to the same scoreline at Athletic Bilbao.
  • Wins have proved elusive for the pair, with Osasuna boasting two in their last seven league games (W2 D1 L4) and Atletico Madrid two from nine (W2 D4 L2).
  • Atletico Madrid did record a 2-0 victory when these sides met at Wanda Metropolitano on Matchday 17 and would win on four of five previous visits to Osasuna in La Liga.

Goals have surprisingly featured prominently in Osasuna’s matches at El Sadar versus the better sides, with both teams scoring 100% of the time when hosting a team seventh or above. That bodes well ahead of Atletico Madrid’s visit, the team in sixth who have both scored and conceded in each of their last five league games.
