PAOK Preview – After two draws, is this the game PAOK pick up their first win of the campaign?
The biggest disappointment for PAOK this season was their failure to qualify for the Champions League – something they have never managed before. It was close this time around but a 4-2 aggregate defeat to Krasnodar done for them and they still appear to have something of a hangover from that defeat which is carrying over into their Europa League form. PAOK dominated against Omonia Nicosia but managed just a 1-1 draw before picking up what could be a valuable draw away to Granada last time out.
It sets them up for a huge couple of games against PSV who many had as being the favourites to progress from this group.
PSV Preview – Can PSV pick up their second away win in this group in as many games?
There’s been a lot of change at PSV over the summer with Roger Schmidt becoming a high-profile coaching appointment and being backed to bring in a number of significant signings. Mario Gotze has arrived from Borussia Dortmund and Eran Zahavi from China – both of whom came on free transfers but with big reputations and wages due to their experience. Ibrahim Sangare was the most expensive transfer fee and the young Ivorian will be a mainstay of their midfield this season.
At the moment, they are keeping on the tails of Ajax in the Eredivisie and have to be able to mount a serious title with the investment they have made.

It’s been a mixed bag in the Europa League so far with one win and one loss. The defeat came at home to Granada despite taking the lead but did manage to get their first points with a come-from-behind victory of their own away to Omonia with the winning goal coming in added time.
The man who got both goals last week was Donyell Malen who is established now as PSV’s main striker. He has seven goals already in all competitions and is a regular feature in the Dutch national team.
PAOK vs PSV Betting Advice
This game and the return match in Eindhoven towards the end of the month will likely have a huge bearing on who goes through from this group. If, as expected, it’s a battle fought between these two teams and Granada. PSV hold the slight advantage over their opponents in terms of placings but a lot can change over the next two round of matches.
It will be the first time the teams face each other since PSV knocked PAOK out the UEFA Cup 19 years ago.
Key Facts – PAOK vs PSV Betting Tip
- PAOK had to settle for this competition having being knocked out in the playoff round of the Champions League
- PSV lost at home to Granada on match day one but defeated Omonia Nicosia last time out
- These teams last met in competitive action back in 2001 when PSV won 6-4 on aggregate
PAOK are a team build on a sound defence and six of their 11 games this season have went under 2.5 goals. They may be up against a team with plenty of attacking options but they’ll look to frustrate them and it could well be another low-scoring game.
