The World Matchplay darts rolls on with this superb looking fixture on Wednesday.

Glen Durrant eased through his first round match, but reigning World Champion Peter Wright had a tougher battle on his hands.

The head to head in this matchup suggests a win for Wright, but he is going to face a tough battle against Duzza who enjoyed himself at last year’s World Matchplay.

Peter Wright Preview – Snakebite edges through

Peter Wright was up against Jose de Sousa in the first round and “Snakebite” didn’t have the easiest of time.

It was only a 10-8 scoreline that Wright got through to the second round with.

Wright is the second-seed at the event having bagged both the World Championship and Masters titles this year.

Wright put up a three-dart average of almost 99 in his first round match against De Sousa.

Peter Wright does have a fairly decent track record at the World Matchplay in recent times.

He has been to at least the quarter finals in each of the last five editions, his best finish being runner up in 2017.

Peter Wright collected a win on the PDC Summer Series earlier this month, so there has been a nice bit of warm-up form there.

He is one of the big ones to beat in this field and he holds a 6-2 head to head record over second round opponent Glen Durrant.

Glen Durrant Preview – Can Durrant stop the rot against Wright?

Glen Durrant wasted no time powering his way through to the second round of the World Matchplay 2020.

He was up against Jeffrey de Zwaan and Durrant only dropped the three legs in getting through.

It was a huge 106 three-dart average that Durrant produced in that fixture.

Twelve months ago on his World Matchplay debut, “Duzza” beat world number one Michael van Gerwen in the second round.

He eventually fell in the semi finals to Michael Smith but it was some run from Durrant.

Glen Durrant is the underdog for this match up and in the handicap market he is 8/11 for +2.5* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:12 GMT on Monday 20th July 2020).

Duzza has dropped the last five matches on the spin against Wright.

The last three have been this year but the only one in that run which was a PDC Premier Event was at the UK Open.

Durrant had Wright rattled in that contest, going down 8-10 in the end.

But still, he will have some appeal to punters no-doubt after what he did last season at the tournament.

Peter Wright vs Glen Durrant Betting Advice

So which way do we swing in this one? It is certainly a very interesting, heavyweight match up between the two of them.

First things first, the head to head is fully running in favour of Peter Wright.

But Wright wasn’t at his sharpest in that first round match, so perhaps could be vulnerable.

Key Facts – Peter Wright vs Glen Durrant Betting Tip

  • Peter Wright is W6 L2 in the head to head with Durrant
  • Peter Wright is on a five match winning streak against Duzza
