This has the making of a being a great semi final fixture in the Premier League of darts. The winner will meet either Gary Anderson or Glen Durrant in the final.

Nathan Aspinall had a terrific debut season in this competition and even though the Asp is the underdog for this final four match, he poses a threat.

It has been an amazing year for Peter Wright as he lines up a shot at another big title for the calendar year. Can he pick up on his strong end of season form?

Peter Wright Preview – Can Wright take his chance

Peter Wright has never had the feeling of winning the Premier League title, but he has to have a big chance this season.

Michael van Gerwen, who has taken it in the last four years, is not in the final four, and given the year that Peter Wright has had, he is rightly the favourite.

Wright has collected the World Championship, the Masters and ran to the World Series of Darts semi finals this year.

His track record of only having been to the final of the Premier League Darts once before (lost) wasn’t great.

But he was the big form player of 2020.

Wright turned up the heat down the final stretch of the regular season as he collected a win in each of his last four games.

He knocked off some big competition in that streak as well, which was enough to get him second place behind Glen Durrant in the final standings.

Our betting prediction:

Wright has met Aspinall eight times before, including the two meetings in the 2020 Premier League of course.

From that record, Snakebite is ahead at 5-3.

On Night 14, Wright collected an 8-5 win over The Asp in Premier League action.

That followed an even easier win for Peter Wright back on Night 5 when the Scotsman eased to a 7-3 win and in that match recorded a phenomenal 110 three-dart average.

Peter Wright ended the regular campaign with the highest three-dart average in the Premier League at 99.66.

Snakebite goes into the match as the 8/13 odds-on favourite to collect a win* (odds taken 14:12 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October).

Nathan Aspinall Preview – Can The Asp keep strong debut going?

It is worth remembering that Aspinall is in his debut season of the Premier League and he has done a solid job to get this far, to say the least.

It was a W9 D1 L6 record that he finished the campaign with.

He and Peter Wright finished with the joint-highest wins from the regular season.

There were a couple of stand-out statistics for Aspinall in the regular season as he booked a third place finish.

He tallied the highest amount of 100+ scores and the highest amount of 140+ scores during the campaign.

Only Wright produced more 180’s than Aspinall did and that was only one more than The Asp picked up, so it was some form by the Englishman.

Apsinall closed out the campaign with three wins in his last four games and he just was just solid and consistent throughout an impressive feat in a difficult format.

Nathan Aspinall is the 13/10 underdog to pick up the victory on the night* (odds taken 14:12 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October).

Nathan Aspinall’s ability to take legs against the throw was a key component of his success, reaching the final four at the first attempt.

He collected 92 legs against the throw in the course of the season and what was a significantly higher number than what Wright managed.

So this is going to be fascinating and Aspinall can’t be totally written out of this contest at all.

With that in mind an Aspinall +1.5 handicap looks a nice bit of value to go into darts betting with at 5/6* (odds taken 14:12 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October).

Peter Wright vs Nathan Aspinall Betting Advice

What a cracking match this should be. It was a tremendous campaign from Aspinall, who like Glen Durrant has made the semi finals on his debut season.

He was scoring heavily and taking his chances throughout the season. But we have to look back at the head to head.

Aspinall fell twice to Wright during the campaign and that’s enough for us to take a pass on him.

Key Facts – Peter Wright vs Nathan Aspinall Betting Tip

  • Peter Wright won his final four games of the regular season
  • Peter Wright beat Aspinall twice during the 2020 campaign
  • Nathan Aspinall has made the semi finals in his debut Premier League season

The Aspinall +1.5 handicap is value at 5/6 however and we would start our darts betting options there* (odds taken 14:12 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October).

Wright has been at the business end of some big tournaments this season and knows how to handle the big pressure like this.

He is facing one of the best young talents in the game at the moment, but we see Snakebite coming through.

We would consider the Peter Wright 8-6 correct score option at 6/1* (odds taken 14:12 GMT on Wednesday, 14th October) as we do think it will be fairly close.
