Porto Prediction

Porto were handed a 2-1 defeat away at Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in the first leg of this round of 16 clash with their Italian counterparts, but at least Wednesday night’s hosts grabbed what could be an all-important away goal in that defeat which keeps them firmly in this second leg showdown in Porto.

Since that defeat, Porto put together three wins on the trot with back-to-back victories against Vitoria Setubal and Porto in the Primeira Liga as well as a Taca de Portugal cup win over Sporting Braga, running out comfortable 3-0 winners.

However, a 2-1 defeat at home to Benfica in the league on the weekend will more than likely focus Porto’s minds as they prepare for the visit of Roma on Wednesday night. Goals have also usually featured when Porto are at home, as 13 of their 21 matches played on home turf this season have seen over 2.5 goals.

Forwards Tiquinho (10 goals), Marega and Brahimi (7 goals apiece) along with Aboubakar (4 goals) should ensure the hosts hit the back of the net here.

Key-Facts – Porto v Roma

  • 13 of Porto’s 21 home matches this season have seen over 2.5 goals scored
  • Roma have won just 1 of their last 8 away matches in the Champions League
  • 8 of Roma’s last 9 away matches in the Champions League have produced over 2.5 goals

Roma Prediction

Roma’s four-match winning streak was brought to an abrupt halt on the weekend when they lost their local derby away at Lazio in dramatic style, losing 3-0 to their arch-rivals on the weekend which wasn’t great preparation for this crucial second leg clash in Porto on Wednesday night.

Previous wins against Chievo, Porto in the first leg, Bologna and Frosinone had seemingly placed Roma in a good position ahead of their local derby, but instead they’ll make their way over to Porto looking to hold onto their slender looking 2-1 lead in this second leg.

With just one win from their last eight ties away from home in the Champions League though, Roma know that this tie is far from over as the visitors are experiencing a rather barren spell of wins in this competition on the road.

A 2-1 win at CSKA Moscow has been the only rare highlight on their travels in recent times as the Italian club have lost six of these last eight matches, and although they hold a 2-1 lead going into this return leg, the visitors are by no means guaranteed of going through to the quarter-finals.

However, goals have also featured when Roma are on their travels with 8 of their last 9 away matches in the Champions League producing over 2.5 goals, and with forwards El Shaarawy (8 goals) and Dzeko (7 goals) in their attack, the visitors should also notch here.

Betting Tips Verdict

Porto will fancy their chances of overturning this 2-1 deficit at home tonight while Roma know that if they can score at least one goal, this will go a long way to them progressing.
