Porto Preview – Can Porto put their domestic disappointments behind them and cause a shock in Europe?

Porto’s defence of their league title looks set to end in failure as they now trail leaders Sporting by 10 points and in truth are in a battle for second place which would ensure automatic entry into next season’s Champions League. Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Boavista was the fourth match in a row where Porto have drawn and that’s been the key to them falling behind the leaders.

Sergio Conceicao will be hoping his players can hold off the challenge of Braga and Benfica for that runners-up slot domestically, as well as turning in two big performances which could see them qualify for the last eight of the Champions League.

Porto were impressive in the group stage finishing in second spot behind Manchester City with 13 points. It looked like being an evenly matched battle with Marseille and Olympiakos for second place but they were much superior than both those clubs. The Portuguese champions also showed their excellent defensive capabilities – conceding just three goals in six group games.
Conceicao will be hoping that his attackers are in top form for this leg and the return. Mehdi Taremi is their top scorer this season with 14 but none of them in the Champions League.

Juventus Preview – Will Juventus continue their excellent away form in the Champions League from earlier this season?

Just like their opponents, Juventus’ title defence is also not going as planned. Their period of domination in Italian football could well be coming to an end. Saturday’s defeat in Naples leaves Andrea Pirlo’s team in fourth place and eight points behind Inter who are the current leaders. With a game in hand it’s not inconceivable they can turn things around but the lack of consistency is a concern.

What has not been concerning for Juventus this team has been their away form in the Champions League. Juve won all three of their group games on the road, including an impressive 3-0 win in Barcelona which ultimately seen them top the group.

Cristiano Ronaldo is returning to his home country and he always likes to make it known. However, despite all his achievements and accomplishments in the Champions League, it’s Alvaro Morata who leads the scoring charts for Juventus in this competition. So far, anyway. The former Atletico and Real Madrid striker is on six goals – that’s level with Neymar and Erling Haaland.

Ronaldo does have four goals himself, though, and his record in the knockout stages is incredible. He’s scored seven in as many matches for Juventus.

Porto vs Juventus Betting Advice

Although it’s not the Juventus we all know, the Italians are still favourites to progress from this tie and you can see why. The plethora of attacking options they have is there for all to see with their two strikers combining for 10 goals in six group games – the same number that Porto scored as a team in the same number of games.

Juve also have the advantage in the recent head to head – defeating Porto 3-0 on aggregate in the 2016/17 season. A campaign which ended in defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the final.

Key Facts – Porto vs Juventus Betting Tip

  • Porto have drawn their last four games in all competitions and find themselves 10 points behind in the title race
  • Juve’s 3-0 win in the Nou Camp against Barcelona means Pirlos’ mean have won all three Champions League away games this season
  • These teams met at the same stage in 2017 when Juventus won 3-0 on aggregate, en route to the final

Juventus have been excellent on their travels in the Champions League this season and this looks another good opportunity for them to get a fourth straight victory.
