It may just be the second game of the group stage but Porto are already in a position where they need to secure all three points against Olympiakos who got off to a winning start last week.

Porto Preview – Can Porto respond from last week’s defeat in Manchester to go level with opponents?

It was the perfect start for Sergio Conceicao and his players last week as Luis Diaz excellent goal gave the Portuguese champions the lead away to Manchester City. Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for Porto as within minutes their opponents had equalised and went on to dominate the remainder of the game. It’s a match they would have been unlikely to be targeting any points and gets their most difficult game of the group out the way.

The challenge now, however, is to ensure they get their home campaign off to a winning start and they really need to if they are to have a chance of qualifying.

Our betting prediction:
Porto to win 2-1

Porto’s start to the domestic season and their title defence has been good without being brilliant. They already trail a rejuvenated Benfica by a couple of points and have played a game less. All in, it’s now just two wins in their last five games and that includes a less than convincing 1-0 home win over Tondela.
There’s no shortage of experience in this squad and plenty have played in the latter stages of this competition. Not least Pepe who – at the age of 37 – is still a fundamental part of this Porto team.

Olympiakos Preview – Are Greek champions set for what would be a rare away win in the Champions League group stages?

Led by a Portuguese native in Pedro Martins, Olympiakos will have extra motivation to get the win tomorrow evening as they bid to strengthen their hold on one of the two qualification places in Group C. A 1-0 win at home to Marseille was well deserved but it looked for a long while that they winning goal wouldn’t come. It was a sixth home win in eight Champions League games for the Greek champions, but it’s somewhat different on their travels.

It’s two victories in their last 10 away games overall but if you break that down into group stages and knockout matches, Olympiakos have not won on the road since 2015. That was against Dinamo Zagreb.

It’s no surprise to see that Pedro Martins has brought a number of players from his homeland to Greece and it’s been a strategy that has really paid off. After finishing runners up in 2018/19, Olympiakos were comfortable winners of their domestic championship last season and also reached the last 16 of the Europa League, losing narrowly to Wolves.

Star of the show for Olympiakos is the experienced Youssef El-Arabi. He scored 20 in the league alone last season and is on five for this season already.

Porto vs Olympiakos Betting Advice

Despite being regular participants in European competition, this will be the first time that the two clubs meet each other since 1990/2000. Porto qualified on that occasion as both teams one their home games. They’ll definitely be hoping that’s the case come the end of this campaign.

Key Facts – Porto vs Olympiakos Betting Tip

  • Porto took the lead against Manchester City but were comfortably beaten 3-1 in the end
  • Olympiakos got their campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 win at home to Marseille
  • Somewhat surprisingly, this will be the first meeting between the clubs in 20 years

The pressure is definitely on the home team in this one after last week’s results. Porto had won six out of seven home games in the Champions League before losing to Liverpool in the quarter-finals back in 2019 and then at the playoff stage against Krasnodar last season.

Eight of their last 11 home matches in the competition have ended with both teams scoring whilst Olympiakos have scored in seven of their last 12 away matches in the Champions League. It looks a good value bet for tomorrow’s encounter.
