Charlton Athletic slipped out of the play-off pack following Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Blackpool and they face another tough away trip to the south coast this Tuesday night as they look to become only the second team to inflict a defeat upon Portsmouth in the league at Fratton Park this season.
Prior to their recent loss at Blackpool, Charlton had also strung together four wins on the trot in the third tier with victories over Doncaster Rovers, Walsall, Bristol Rovers and Burton Albion, but an away record of 4-2-4 16/15 shows a level of inconsistency for Lee Bowyer’s side.
This is further emphasised when looking at Charlton’s last five results away from home; back-to-back defeats at Scunthorpe United and Rochdale were followed by back-to-back wins at Walsall and Burton before losing again at Blackpool.
Portsmouth therefore seem the more consistent of the two teams and the betting tips advise a lean towards the hosts here.
