One of the surprises in this season’s Championship so far has been the form of Preston North End who currently occupy fourth place in the English second tier and just two points adrift of league leaders, Leeds United.
On the back of a satisfying 3-1 win away at beleaguered Birmingham City (after falling a goal down), Preston now return to Deepdale for Saturday afternoon’s clash with Millwall who sit in the bottom half of the Championship.
Preston still remain undefeated on home turf with an early record of 3-1-0 6/1 thanks to wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Reading and Cardiff City, with perhaps the most pleasing aspect for manager, Alex Neil, being three clean sheets to date. Oh, and his side currently sit eight places above his former club, Norwich City!
Millwall sit in 16th place in the Championship but they’ll have been boosted by their recent 1-0 home win over Leeds United last weekend, and The Lions will make their way up north for this Saturday’s clash with Preston in confident mood.
However, Millwall will need to break a run of 12 matches away from home without a win if they’re to steal the three points here this afternoon, and although they’ve suffered just one defeat at the New Den so far this season, this trip is sure to present them with plenty of problems I feel.
Millwall’s survival in this season’s Championship is almost certainly dependent upon their results on home turf, and I just can’t see them getting anything out of Preston here today.
