Championship club Preston North End take on League One outfit Doncaster Rovers as the betting tips continue at Deepdale in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.
Preston North End Prediction
Preston come into this cup-tie on the back of a poor recent run of results as the hosts have lost three of their last four in the Championship with losses to Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City and Rotherham United along with a draw against Aston Villa.
Preston sit in 17th place in the Championship but hold a seven point cushion ahead of the relegation zone, so manager Alex Neil may opt to field a fairly strong side here as they look to boost their income with a place in the 4th round.
Despite their recent dip in results, Preston have suffered just one defeat at Deepdale in their last eight matches overall, but also interestingly, 7 of these last 8 have seen both teams score; in addition, of Preston’s 15 home matches in all competitions so far, 13 of them have featured both teams scoring.
Midfielder Browne (8 goals) and forward Robinson (9 goals) look to be the hosts’ main goal threats.
Doncaster Rovers Prediction
Doncaster Rovers have enjoyed a pretty successful season so far as they sit in 6th place in League One and occupy a place in the play-off pack as they turn their attentions to a decent cup run which has already included wins over Chorley and Charlton Athletic – the latter being against fellow League one opposition away from home.
The visitors have also recorded back-to-back wins in recent matches against Gillingham and Rochdale in League One and of their 17 away matches in all competitions to date this term, both teams have scored in 12 of these, so there’s more than just a fair chance of Doncaster scoring and conceding here.
Rovers’ leading goalscorer, Marquis (15 goals) is the visitors’ best chance of notching at Preston here today as he’s scored 8 goals in his last 10 matches in all competitions, and against a Preston defensive unit that are susceptible to conceding, Doncaster may well fancy their chances of progressing to the next round.
