Preston North End extended their unbeaten run of matches in the Championship to seven games with a valuable point away at Aston Villa in a 1-1 draw during the week, and they now return to Deepdale which has become a kind of fortress in recent times ahead of the visit from Ipswich Town.
Preston have drawn their last three matches on the trot though, and this has cost them ground in their pursuit of a play-off place, but all three points this afternoon could lift them level on points with sixth placed Bristol City.
With a home record of 6-7-3 19/15 and just one defeat from their last eight matches on home turf, along with seven clean sheets and Barkhuizen (7 goals), Preston look well set to add to their points tally here.
Ipswich Town are one of many sides in the Championship that promise a whole lot more than they deliver, and this has certainly been the case again this season as the Tractor Boys have again flattered to deceive as they currently occupy a disappointing 14th place on the Championship league ladder.
Ipswich slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Cardiff City during the week, which was their third in five matches at Portman Road, and it amazes me how long manager, Mick McCarthy, has been allowed to just meander along with the east anglian side more often than not, drifting around mid-to-lower table season after season.
An away record of 5-3-8 20/27 is simply not good enough for a club of Ipswich’s size, although they have managed draws at Bolton Wanderers and derby rivals, norwich City, as well as recording a 2-0 win at Sunderland.
Expect a tougher game for Ipswich here though.
