Preston North End Preview – Can the Lilywhites seal first league win of season?

Preston North End have had a mixed bag of results at the start of this season. After kicking off with a 4-0 home win over Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup, Alex Neil’s troops started their 2020-21 Championship campaign with a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Swansea City.

Preston did put their first point on the board last weekend, though, holding Norwich City to a draw at Carrow Road. In front of 1,000 spectators, North End more than played their part, taking the lead twice in Norfolk. Unfortunately for the Lilywhites, Przemyslaw Placheta’s late goal rescued a point for Daniel Farke’s men.

Our betting prediction:
Stoke win & over 2.5 goals
9/2

Preston pushed for a play-off place practically all season last term, just coming up short in the end. Neil’s side will once again be aiming for a top six finish this season. Can they put their first three points on the board this weekend?

Stoke City Preview – Stoke to leave Deepdale with all three points?

Stoke City went into the season full of hope and expectation, but the Potters have made a sluggish start. Michael O’Neill’s side picked up a handy 0-0 draw with Millwall at The Den in their opener. However, they were beaten 2-0 by Bristol City at the bet365 Stadium last Sunday.

Stoke have been very good in the EFL Cup so far, though, winning three out of three. City beat Blackpool on penalties in round one before shocking Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers with a 1-0 victory at Molineux in the second round. Last Wednesday evening, a Tyrese Campbell goal was enough to give Stoke a 1-0 home win over Gillingham and a spot in the fourth round.

Preston North End vs Stoke City Betting Advice

Preston did the double over Stoke last season. North End won 3-1 at Deepdale courtesy of goals by Daniel Johnson, Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop. North End then picked up a 2-0 win at Stoke, with Alan Browne and Tom Barkhuizen getting on the scoresheet at the bet365 Stadium.

Key Facts – Preston North End vs Stoke City Betting Tip

  • Preston have won four and drawn one of the previous five meetings
  • Stoke’s last victory over North End came in January 2008
  • Both sides are winless after two league games so far

Preston have certainly had Stoke’s number in recent years, but we fancy City to secure a narrow victory at Deepdale on Saturday. There is excellent value in the 2-1 away win at 19/2.

After netting the only goal of the game in Stoke’s midweek cup win over the Gills, back Tyrese Campbell to score first in this one at 13/2.
