Preview: The Ligue 1 table shows these are the best two teams in France as of now and means Saturday’s contest at the Parc des Prince has plenty riding on the result for PSG and Lille. There was nothing to separate them at the latter’s Stade Pierre-Mauroy in December, meanwhile, a game that failed to produce a goal.

PSG – Mbappe firing, Neymar returning?

France’s reigning domestic champions reinforced their title credentials in what is fast becoming the most enthralling title race in Europe, storming Lyon’s Groupama Stadium before the international break and leaving with a 4-2 victory. PSG (W20 D3 L7) were four goals to the good by the time the hosts rallied late. Kylian Mbappe was inspired, meanwhile, netting a brace to fire his team back to the summit.

There was further encouragement with the sight of Neymar making a late cameo. The Brazilian has started only one competitive fixture since the beginning of February, away to Caen in the cup, but stands to benefit from two weeks recuperation owing to no South American qualifiers taking place during the break. His return bolsters the attacking options at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal, with his team finding form of late.

PSG have now won four of the last five in Ligue, scoring at least three in five of the last nine in all competitions. They appear to be peaking as we approach the closing stages of a turbulent season. However, while they have won each of the last four away league games, the previous two at the Parc des Princes resulted in defeats, to Nantes and Monaco. Lyon and Marseille also emerged victorious in Paris this term.

Lille – Les Douges at their best on the road?

The biggest question mark that remained unanswered regarding the title credentials of Lille (W18 D9 L3) was whether they had it in them to sustain their impressive consistency should a late charge be forthcoming from Paris. Well that charge has arrived, and it appears to have adversely affected Ligue 1’s long-time leaders who have gone from winning six successive games to just two of the last six (D3 L1).

Christophe Galtier’s men face a sterner run-in as well, with five of their final eight matches against top-ten opposition. This includes Sunday’s trek to the Parc des Princes where only a win – something they last achieved in 1996, losing on all seven previous visits in league and cup – would see them regain top spot. It looks a taller order even when factoring in their superb away exploits this term.

Only Saturday’s opponents PSG, who played a game more, have collected more points on their travels this season than Lille. Les Douges recording seven consecutive away victories, five without so much as conceding a goal, prior to the goalless draw at fourth-placed Monaco. They will also take heart from the fact that all of the current top-six claimed maximum points on their visits to Paris in Ligue 1 in 2020-21.

PSG Vs Lille Betting Advice

Unquestionably the fixture of the weekend from France, as top welcomes second at Parc des Princes where PSG’s record in Ligue 1 makes them vulnerable ahead of the visit from Lille. The latter possess a rotten record here, losing on 13 of 21 Ligue 1 visits since last emerging victorious via a slender 1-0 scoreline in April 1996. However, already this term PSG has lost to Lyon, Marseille and Monaco in Paris.

Chelsea Vs Bayern Munich – Key Facts:

  • Lille has not tasted victory in Ligue away to PSG since a 1-0 triumph in April 1996, Les Douges slumping to defeat on 13 of 21 subsequent meetings held in Paris.
  • PSG boast four straight away wins in Ligue 1, the latest a rousing 4-2 victory at title rivals Lyon, but have lost the past two at home to Nantes and Monaco.
  • Lille had recorded seven consecutive away victories in Ligue 1, five of those ‘to nil’, prior to a 0-0 draw in Monaco in their latest away fixture

The midweek Champions League first-leg with Bayern Munich could also be in the back of one or two PSG minds, as it is common knowledge that winning in Europe carries more significance for a club accustomed to sweeping up honours in France. Lille nullified the Parisiens when these teams met first time around, a goalless draw at Stade Pierre-Mauroy in December, and are immense travellers (one loss in 14, only 9 conceded).
