PSG – Champions in formidable form early doors?
Ligue 1 holders PSG have begun the campaign in ominous form. Even at this early juncture, after only three rounds of fixtures, the gulf from Christophe Galtier’s charges and those of his managerial counterparts feels enormous. This was laid bare following last week’s 7-1 dismantling of Lille – the only club in the past five seasons that wasn’t PSG to win the league – at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in northern France.

Monaco – Principality side can rise to the occasion in Paris?
Having witnessed Lille being destroyed at the hands of Paris’ finest, what hope is there of Monaco, one of only two clubs to lift the Ligue 1 trophy that wasn’t PSG in the past ten seasons, coming away from the Parc des Princes on Sunday unscathed. Well, more than one might come to expect? Les Monegasques were one of four sides to defeat them in Ligue 1 last season, and among the most recent to do so in Paris.
Monaco prevailed 2-0 in this fixture two seasons prior, emerging with a first win in the capital since 2016 in spite of lowly possession (25%) and shooting (5) figures. Almost certainly a similar backs-to-the-wall effort is called for when Philppe Clement sends his team, which has made a less than inspiring start to the new term (W1-D1-L1, GF4 GA6), into the most daunting of assignments on the French football calendar.
Key Stat: Monaco would score but also concede in all three Ligue 1 matches so far this season. This has been true of their last six league games going back into last season.

Ordinarily, this would count among PSG’s more trickier contests in Paris. However I am not entirely sure that is the case this weekend – and bookmakers are clearly in agreement by pricing the Parisians up as short as 1/5 for three points. Whereas Christophe Galtier has his team purring from the get-go, Monaco have made a stuttering start in the league (W1 D1 L1) are already out of the Champions League.
