PSG – Parisiens can consolidate top spot?

Victory in Paris on Matchday 2, stunning last season’s English Premier League champions Manchester City 2-0 at the Parc des Princes, halted the Parisiens’ four-game winless run (D3 L1) in Champions League home games. Having only picked up a point away to Club Brugge first time out, drawing 1-1, to have then beaten last season’s defeated finalists provided the perfect response and means they top Group A.

Quite how they pulled off the win last time is still a mystery for some. PSG were on the ropes for large portions of the contest, scoring twice despite not creating a single big chance and a paltry 0.57 xG. City, by contrast, accumulated more than three times as much. Yet it continued a strong start to the 2021-22 season, winning 10 of 12 matches in all competitions (D1 L1) but only once by a margin greater than two.

Key Stat: PSG have won all six competitive home matches this season, three of these being ‘to nil’, with Kylian Mbappe scoring (twice) or assisting (four) in all but one.

RB Leipzig – Germans to remain pointless in Group A?

Last season’s 2-1 win in Paris on Matchday 3 remains the club’s sole win across six previous meetings with French opposition (D1 L4). It also marked the only occasion they avoided defeat away from home in that season’s competition, losing three of four matches in which they were the designated away team. So the omens ahead of a third trip to the French capital in as many campaigns are far from encouraging.

Jesse Marsch has taken over from Julian Nagelsmann in the manager’s dugout and has endured a testing settling in period. Die Rotten Bullen are down in eighth in Germany’s Bundesliga standings following the weekend draw in Freiburg, while they remain without a point in Group A, conceding eight times – the most of any team so far – across a pair of defeats to Man City (6-3) and Club Brugge (1-2).

Key Stat: RB Leipzig have yet to register a win or a clean sheet in five away matches in either the Bundesliga or Champions League in 2021-22 (D2 L3), conceding exactly one goal in all but the 6-3 loss to Man City in England.

PSG Vs RB Leipzig Betting Advice

Pointless in Group A, this is hardly the sort of setting where you want to be searching for your first positive result. Not that PSG were scintillating here in Paris on Matchday 2, but they still came away with a scarcely deserved 2-0 victory against a Man City side many believe to be amongst the strongest contenders to reach the final. That memorable win maintaining Les Parisiens’ flawless home record this season (W6, GF16 GA4).

PSG Vs RB Leipzig – Key Facts:

  • With four points from two matches so far, PSG (W1 D1) top Group A. Meanwhile RB Leipzig are yet to get off the mark (L2), conceding more goals (8) than anyone else.
  • PSG are aiming to maintain their 100% winning record in home matches this season (six wins) against an RB Leipzig outfit yet to win away from home this season (D2 L3).
  • Kylian Mbappe has enjoyed his outings in the French capital so far this term, providing four assists across six competitive home matches in 2021-22.

On current form, it is difficult imaging anything other than a seventh successive win in Paris for Mauricio Pochettino and his team. For starters, RB Leipzig have travelled poorly this term – their solitary win in six away fixtures being against lower tier opponents in the German Cup. The German side are on a run of seven straight games scoring at least once, though, even managing three away to Man City’s miserly rearguard.
