Friday night football returns in the Championship this week with a resurgent QPR taking on a beleaguered Aston Villa as the betting tips continue in the English second tier.
QPR made a horrific start to the new Championship campaign under new manager, Steve McClaren, as the R’s lost their first four league matches on the trot with defeats to Preston North End, Sheffield United, West Brom and Bristol City – the latter two ending in heavy 7-1 and 3-0 losses respectively.
McClaren replaced former boss and player, Ian Holloway, and although many people (including myself) were sceptical regarding his appointment, QPR are now currently enjoying a great spell of form which has seen the hosts win three of their last four in the Championship with victories over Reading, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday.
This recent upturn in fortunes has lifted the London club up into 11th place and another three points at Loftus Road on Friday night would see QPR jump as high as 6th place ahead of this weekend’s action.
Aston Villa are currently a club in turmoil following the recent sacking of former manager, Steve Bruce, who was just shy of a two-year tenure at Villa Park following a run of poor results, as well as former Chairman, Doug Ellis recently passing away.
It would be fair to say that The Villans are in transitional mode right now as Bruce’s successor, former Brentford manager, Dean Smith, has taken over in the west midlands club’s hot seat. Smith oversaw a 1-0 home win over Swansea City in his first game in charge but Villa and he quickly returned back down to earth when Aston Villa lost 2-1 away at Norwich City on Tuesday night.
The visitors possess a poor away record of 1-3-3 9/12 so far this season, but the interesting fact is that they’ve managed to score in each of their away matches to date despite recording just the one win on their travels.
This is a Friday night fixture which will be televised and my betting tips suggest backing both teams to score here.
