It was contrasting fortunes for QPR and Huddersfield on the opening weekend last time out and the visitors will be looking to bounce back by getting three points at Loftus Road on Saturday.

QPR Preview – Can ‘Rangers build on last week’s win over Stoke to take another three points?

Mark Warburton came into Loftus Road and had a major job on his hands to turnover the playing squad. It’s been a stale club for a while now, and it’s always going to be challenging when there are little in the way of funds to bring in players of a certain quality. Warburton, formerly of Rangers and Brentford, has used his contacts to bring in a host of new players. These have mainly been in the form of free transfers and loans which is the markets ‘Rangers have to deal in. Jordan Hugill was a big name from West Ham and he opened his account at the first time of asking when scoring in the win over Stoke. There is a lot of experience in this group of players but the new manager has complemented that with exciting, younger players as well.

What Warburton will be especially keen to do is to coach all his players into playing a style that he is known for. He wants a possession based game and for his team to dominate the ball. That was evident against Stoke and the challenge now is to find consistency. That starts with trying to back up that victory with another three points on Saturday. Whilst it’s a totally different team, they will be looking to increase their tally of nine home wins at Loftus Road last season.

Huddersfield Preview – Will Terriers bounce back after losing at home to Derby on Monday?

It’s always interesting to see how team’s react from the disappointment of relegation and how they begin the new campaign. On the evidence we have seen from Huddersfield so far, and it’s a very small sample, it could be another struggle for them. There’s often different ways to be relegated and for Huddersfield it was won of the worst possible. They were virtually down at Christmas time and nothing to play for other than pride in the remainder of the season. A change in manager to build for the new season may sometimes be seen as a positive to rebuild but that’s so far been a failure as well. The arrival of Jan Siewart was met with some suspicion and it’s been proven correct so far.

Derby are likely to be one of the promotion challengers this season so it was always likely to be a difficult start for them. There was plenty of fight and desire shown but they do appear to be lacking quality in both defence and attack. That may also apply to the midfield now that star man Aaron Mooy has left the club to join Brighton, initially on a season’s loan. It looks like being a season of consolidation for the Terriers – at best.

Key-Facts – QPR v Huddersfield

  • Mark Warburton’s reign as QPR boss got off to a winning start when his team defeated Stoke 2-1 away from home
  • It was not the start Huddersfield would have wanted following relegation from the Premier League, losing at home to Derby
  • Jordan Hugill has impressed at Championship level before and got off the mark for his new club last week

QPR v Huddersfield Betting Advice

It’s been a really positive start for QPR under Warburton and they will be looking to maintain that with their first home match of the campaign. They have a style of play that is a work in progress and looking to create an identity. For Huddersfield, they are still looking for both of those things under Siewart who has been in charge for a lot longer. That can all change with a good result, however, especially on their travels.

Momentum and belief is a massive help at this level, especially so early in the season. With the respective starts of both teams I am banking on QPR to have the edge and continue their 100% start to the season. Piling more misery on Hudderfield at the same time.
