QPR Prediction

After losing just one league match from their nine played during October and November, the promise shown from QPR under manager Steve McClaren was encouraging and a breath of fresh air, but just when you though QPR were going to push on and stake their claim for a possible play-off place in the Championship, QPR have well and truly blown it, going five matches without a win in the second tier.

This winless run has seen the London club drop down to 14th place and are now eight points adrift of 6th placed Bristol City, and being 14 points above the relegation zone, there’s only the FA Cup left to play for it seems for The R’s.

I would therefore be both surprised and disappointed if QPR rotated their squad for this cup tie, despite QPR losing three of their last four matches overall. Still, they avoided defeat at Fratton Park and now hold home advantage at Loftus Road on Tuesday night so we should see QPR really going for it here.

5 of QPR’s last 6 matches have seen both teams score.

Key-Facts – QPR v Portsmouth

  • QPR have lost 3 of their last 4 matches in all competitions
  • 5 of QPR’s last 6 matches have seen both teams score
  • Portsmouth have managed just 1 win from their last 6 matches

Portsmouth Prediction

Portsmouth were denied at Fratton Park in their first tie against QPR and now face a difficult trip to London to face QPR for two reasons; firstly, a cup replay away from home at a Championship club, and secondly, manager Kenny Jackett will need to balance the scales between winning this cup tie and the financially lucrative situation of facing Premier League opposition, Watford, or rotate his squad as Pompey make the final push for promotion to the Championship.

Having recently lost 3-2 away at League One leaders Luton Town and being held to a 1-1 draw at home by play-off candidates Doncaster Rovers, I’m tempted to think that Jackett will prioritise their League One campaign, particularly as they’re just a point behind 2nd placed Barnsley and an automatic promotion spot.
Portsmouth have beaten Maidenhead United, Rochdale and Norwich City, all away from home, to reach this 4th round stage but the the very real prospect of promotion from League One may just take priority here.

Betting Tips Verdict

As mentioned earlier, QPR should see this cup tie as a real chance of some success this season and should therefore account for a distracted Portsmouth outfit on Tuesday night.
