QPR have probably done enough in recent weeks to secure their place in the Championship for another season but another three points would all but make sure whilst Rotherham’s need is much greater as they remain mired in the bottom three.

QPR Preview

Steve McClaren was appointed manager at Loftus Road at the end of last season having been out the game for over a year. His time at Derby was more concerned with trying to get out the league via promotion, but it was apparent from the beginning of the campaign that this role would be more around keeping ‘Rangers in the division and avoiding relegation. That mission looks to be on course as QPR heading into Wednesday’s game having taken four points from the last nine – that may not seem overly impressive, but considering it’s comprised of a win over championship-chasing Leeds and a difficult away trip to Stoke last time out, it takes on some more significance as it’s came in games they may not have expected to get much from. It’s also came at a time where their form has dipped since the turn of the year with eight defeats in their last 10 league games. It now leaves QPR 10 points clear of the bottom three and one more win – considering who it is against – would virtually see them safe for another season. There is also perhaps a feeling of ‘what if’ for McClaren whose team without that dreadful run at the beginning of the year would still be in with a chance of making the playoffs.

Key-Facts – QPR v Rotherham United

  • Rotherham are in the bottom three and in need of points but have yet to win away from home in the league
  • QPR are just about safe but it’s been a disappointing 2019 so far and another win would all but confirm their Championship status
  • ‘Rangers are undefeated in three games at home to Rotherham, winning their last two convincingly

Rotherham United Preview

Paul Warne was manager of Rotherham when they were relegated in 2016/17 and stayed on to see their immediate return courtesy of the League One playoffs. It was always bound to be another struggler considering the resources and budget they have available to them but they are still competitive and hold a chance of surviving this time around. It’s just a point between themselves and Millwall, whilst another couple of teams are within three points – so there is a reasonable opportunity they can overtake at least one of those. Warne will be pleased in one way with his side’s recent form as Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away to high-flying Sheffield United was their first loss in seven league games. It’s also been a frustrating period, however, as they have managed just one win in that time. Compared to the run of defeats they were on beforehand it’s a definite improvement but Warne is pragmatic enough to know that it will be wins that take Rotherham clear of the bottom three come the end of the season, and with games against teams at the top of the league coming up, the probability of them picking up many victories in the immediate future is lower than some of the opposition they have faced recently.

QPR v Rotherham United Betting Advice

The hosts are close to breathing a huge sigh of relief and looking ahead to another season in the Championship but they have been vulnerable for long parts of 2019, although recent performances will give them some more confidence for this game and the remainder of the season. For Rotherham they will be looking at this game as one where they are in with more hope and a better chance of getting three points ahead of what looks a really horrid run of fixtures over the next few weeks.

It’s hardly a clash between two teams in good form but considering the struggles of both and league position, that’s hardly a surprise. QPR’s home record is decent overall with eight wins, whilst Rotherham are still in search for that first away win the league. You sense that will have to change by at least couple for them to survive. It’s commendable how the visitors have shown some fight and earned what could be yet valuable points come the end of the season, but they are limited – especially on their travels – and QPR have enough at home to take all three points from this one.
