Rangers – Will Rangers extend their recent good run over Celtic to keep their hopes of a double alive?

It took three years but Steven Gerrard eventually won his first trophy as Rangers manager as is team were successful in clinching the Scottish Premiership this season. It’s been a procession in many ways for the Ibrox club and they remain unbeaten in the league with four games left to play. Rangers did come undone at the hands of St Mirren in the League Cup earlier in the season, however, so there is some pressure on them to win this competition in a campaign that has promised so much.

Rangers reached the final of the Scottish Cup back in 2016 but were beaten 3-2 by Hibernian on that occasion.

There is some hope that captain James Tavernier will be able to return after missing the last nine matches. A decision on him will be made as late as possible but with Rangers appealing the ban handed out to a number of their players, including Nathan Patterson, they will have a right back available.

One man who will play no part in this game is midfielder Ryan Jack. Jack has been ruled out for the rest of this season and will also miss Scotland’s involvement at Euro 2020.

Celtic Preview – Can Celtic maintain their excellent form in the competition as they look for a fifth successive win?

John Kennedy remains in interim charge of Celtic and Sunday’s game against Rangers is without a doubt his biggest test to date. In what has been an extremely challenging season for Celtic, the Scottish Cup offers the club and the support some sort of solace. The Hoops have won it in each of the last four years and are the most successful club in the history of the competition. So it’s certainly been favourable to them.

The challenge for Kennedy and his players is attempting to continue that record by doing something they haven’t managed in 18 months – and that’s beating Rangers.

Celtic produced one of their best performances of the season last week when defeating Livingston 6-0. James Forrest scored for the second consecutive game but also went off injured – he remains a doubt for this one.

Mohamed Elyonoussi was also on the scoresheet last week taking his season’s tally to 18 in all competitions. The Norwegian forward scored Celtic’s goal in the recent 1-1 draw with Rangers in the league and he will be an important player if the Hoops are to progress to the next round.

Rangers vs Celtic Betting Advice

As ever when these two meet it is one not to be missed. Rangers will feel they need to assert their authority in this campaign by adding the Scottish Cup to their haul but Celtic will see this as a viable opportunity to salvage something from a hugely underwhelming season.

Rangers won the first two league games whilst the most recent encounter ended in a draw. Celtic have been the better team in the last two matches, though, so will be looking to get the result to go with those performances this time around.

Key Facts – Rangers vs Celtic Betting Tip

  • Rangers are undefeated in the Scottish Premiership but did lose to St Mirren in the League Cup
  • Celtic have won the previous four Scottish Cups and have the most wins in the history of the competition
  • This will be the first meeting between the two in the Scottish Cup since Celtic won 4-0 in the 2018 semi-final

Home advantage is clearly important but Celtic have shown a revival of their best attacking form in the last couple of weeks. There may be 20 points between the teams in the league but that’s no evident on the park when both are on top form. As such, take the Hoops to get the win and progress to the quarter-finals of the competition they know how to win.
