Rangers Preview – Are Rangers set to show their best form and ensure they stay top?

Rangers won their first title in a decade last season and they done it with plenty to spare. Finishing 25 points clear of their nearest rivals and finishing the league season unbeaten would have given them so much confidence and belief that they are embarking on a period of domination. It’s been less impressive this time around, however.

Seven games into the season and Steven Gerrard’s men have already lost (1-0 away to Dundee United) as well as dropping points in their last home game against Motherwell. Performances have also generally been poorer, they look more open at the back and less potent in attack. That said they still top the Premiership and are six points clear of Celtic who despite their troubles are still see as their biggest challenger.

Dealing with expectation and the pressure of champions is always more difficult and Rangers are finding that out this season but they are in that winning habit which they hope will continue with this being another test.

It’s even more so as it comes on the back of a trip away in the Europa League. Rangers travel to the Czech Republic where they take on Sparta Prague and will do so without Conor Goldson who is missing with injury.

Hibernian Preview – Could Hibs continue their excellent start to the season and take first place in the process?

It’s been a very encouraging start to the season for Jack Ross and his Hibs team. Along with Hearts they are the only two unbeaten teams in the Scottish Premiership and are one point off the leaders and their next opponents. The incentive to get the win which would put them top of the table going into the international break is huge.

Four wins and three draws is impressive but Ross will also be aware that it could have been even better. Hibs held leads over Dundee and St Mirren heading into the final 10 minutes but had to settle for a point on both occasions. They could easily have taken the victory in the Edinburgh derby as well but they have to be positive about what they have on the board.

Martin Boyle is a big reason why Hibs are going so well just now. The winger tops the scoring charts with six goals and has 10 for the season across all competitions. He’s the main threat at the moment but Kevin Nisbet is also more than capable and will feel he’s due a goal.

The forwards will link up with their international team-mates after this game and hope to do so on the back of a positive result.

Rangers vs Hibernian Betting Advice

Games before the international break always take on a big more significance as it will be two weeks before the teams next play. This match particularly so as a potential victor will at worst be joint top of the table for that period.

There is little love lost between these teams at the best of times so the fact they play each other first and second will only add to that rivalry.

Key Facts – Rangers vs Hibernian Betting Tip

  • Rangers have not been at their best this season but hold a one point advantage at the top of the league
  • Hibs are one of two unbeaten teams in the Scottish Premiership and have won four of their first seven
  • Hibs’ last victory over Rangers was back in 2018 when winning 2-1 at Ibrox

I alluded to how Rangers appear to be more exposed in defence than they were last season. They’ve already conceded in four of their seven games and come up against a Hibs team who have scored in all but one of their league matches and have the duel threat of Nisbet and Boyle.

It’s over three years since Hibs last won at Ibrox but they tend to be competitive. They can trouble their hosts and at the very least find the net on Sunday in a match where both teams are likely to score.
