Rapid Vienna Preview – Are Rapid capable of upsetting their opponents to continue good home form?
It’s been a challenging campaign for Rapid Vienna thus far. The Austrians sit bottom of Group H with just one win from four games – losing the other three. That solitary victory came at home to Dinamo Zagreb in their last home game of the section. They went down 3-1 to the same opponent in the return game last time out whilst they have also lost to Genk (at home) and West Ham without scoring a goal.
It leaves them needing to get points in their remaining two games (they finish away to Genk) if they are to be playing some sort of European football next year. Third place would see them make it to the Europa Conference League whilst second would get them into the last 32 of this competition.
Rapid dropped into the Europa League having been unsuccessful in Champions League qualification, losing to Sparta Prague in the early rounds. They then were pretty comfortable in progressing past Anorthosis and Zorya but have work to do now in order to continue in Europe.
Their form at home in this competition will give them some cause for hope they can get a result. The last 16 home games in the Europa League have seen them win nine and draw four. Either of those results would give them a fighting chance heading into that last match.
West Ham Preview – Can West Ham get the win that would see them top the group?
You would never know this is the first time West Ham are competing in the group stage of a European competition. David Moyes’ team are sure to finish in the top two in this section. The aim now is getting the points which will see them finish in first place and ensuring they go through to the last-16 of the Europa League and avoid playing a team dropping out the Champions League in the last-32.
To do that the Hammers need to win one of their final two games to be absolutely sure but could likely afford to draw both and still finish ahead of the other three teams.

Moyes and his players started this campaign with an impressive win in Zagreb before home successes against Rapid and Genk. They didn’t even concede a goal in those first three games. A 2-2 draw away to the Belgians gives them command of the group with a four point leader over second place Dinamo.
This match comes between a defeat away to Wolves last weekend and ahead of a visit to champions Manchester City in their domestic league, so it may be Moyes elects to use some of his squad players for this game.
