RB Leipzig – Another English scalp in the offing?
Beaten semi-finalists in 2019/20. It was in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie that RB Leipzig delivered arguably their most accomplished collective performance of the tournament, dismantling another team from the English Premier League, Tottenham, in Germany when winning 3-0 inside Red Bull Arena. The most recent of those coming in 2018/19, a 3-1 victory on the road against last season’s champions Bayern Munich, en route to securing the club’s sixth European title.
Performances so far this season, though, would indicate an arduous journey awaits if England’s most decorated club are to make their third Champions League final appearance in four seasons. Last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester made it three on the spin for the first time in more than six years, after yet another error-strewn display, leaving them thirteen points adrift of the Premier League summit in fourth.
