RB Leipzig – Perfect fixture in which to address home slump?

Proving there continues to be nothing amiss with the attacking side of their game. RB Leipzig (3th – W16 D10 L3) would carve FC Koln open time and again at RheinEnergieSTADION last Monday, in a 4-2 victory that was thoroughly deserved after dominating in Cologne. Timo Werner was understandably disappointed to only notch one in his pursuit of the Golden Boot, however Leipzig are now up to 12 goals in 4 games since returning to action.

The downside, of course, will be that Leipzig haven’t collected as many points as intended since the resumption, with draws against Freiburg and Hertha Berlin offsetting victories over Mainz and Koln. Leaders Bayern are now all-but out of sight, which leaves the top-four as a minimum requirement for Julian Nagelsmann, who needs to quickly address his team’s faltering home form if he’s to secure Champions League football for 2020/21.

Aside from a fairly routine 3-0 win over second-from-bottom Werder Bremen, which represents their sole win at home in the last five said matches (W1 D4), RB Leipzig have come unstuck far too often at the Red Bull Arena lately. The last three visiting sides – Freiburg (1-1), Hertha Berlin (2-2) and Leverkusen (1-1) – all escaped with a point. Meanwhile, only one of the previous seven – with that being Bremen – failed to find the back of their net.

Paderborn – Bundesliga newcomers going down fighting?

With fixtures running out and nowhere near enough points on the board, a swift return to the German second tier is becoming inevitable. A few more results similar to last week’s mauling at home by Borussia Dortmund, losing 6-1 in front of an empty Benteler-Arena, and their fate will be sealed sooner as opposed to later Steffen Baumgart’s men now trail Fortuna Dusseldorf and the relegation play-off spot by eight points.

However, credit where it is due. Since returning to action Paderborn (18th – W4 D7 L18) have competed admirably, no doubt still believing a great escape could be pulled off. That was never likely to materialise without a credible goal threat, though, netting only twice in recent contests with Dusseldorf (0-0, A), Hoffenheim (1-1, H), FC Augsburg (0-0, A) and, more recently, Dortmund. A return of 31 goals from 29 games superior to just two teams so far.

Meanwhile, only Mainz have conceded more than their 61, which have come at more than two per game (2.1). This despite tightening up of late, shipping one goal in 270 minutes of Bundesliga football prior to Dortmund tormenting them last week – and for 45 minutes they held firm at 0-0. Yet the manner in which Paderborn finished that game, being carved open all too easily, has to be concerning heading into another daunting encounter.

RB Leipzig Vs Paderborn Betting Advice

At short odds, RB Leipzig should oblige, and they ought to do so with something to spare really. The Red Bull Arena has witnessed only one win in the last five, however this is a much more favourable match-up than any of those, against a blunt Paderborn outfit low on goal threat and desperately out of form with six defeats and no wins from their last ten Bundesliga games.

RB Leipzig Vs Paderborn – Key Facts

  • Victory for RB Leipzig keeps them in control of their top-four destiny, whereas Paderborn appear a hopeless cause at the foot of the Bundesliga after falling eight points behind the relegation play-off.
  • However, Julian Nagelsmann side boast one win from their last five at Red Bull Arena, potentially leaving the door ajar for Paderborn to claim a memorable result.
  • On Matchday 13, RB Leipzig surged into a 3-0 lead away to Paderborn before being pegged back to 3-2, which is how it stayed.

In the reverse fixture, Leipzig appeared to have the points sewn up when 3-0 in front inside the opening half-hour, before withstanding some late pressure to eventually prevail 3-2. It would be a surprise were Paderborn to get as close second time around, especially as they don’t appear to have a goal in them at the moment. Hope springs eternal, though, as eight of the last nine visiting teams would net at least once.
