Week 2 of the Championship is still way too early to decide what teams will be successful and what teams will struggle this season. However, both teams involved in this tie will be looking to get a win from this match and it seems that form at the early stage of the season will help build foundations for later on in the year.

Reading Review – Can Reading continue their great form after a comfortable 2-0 last weekend?

The royals have had a very strong performance so far since the return of competitive football. Two wins from two and 5 goals in those two matches wouldve b=made team spirits very high at this moment in time.

Lucas Joao is very much the man of the moment right now. A Hat-trick last week against Colchester in the Carabao cup and then another goal and an assist assured the whole reading team if they didn’t know already that he is the star man.

The striker was a real danger from the outset of the match against Derby and will be hoping to provide the same sort of performance at home against Barnsley.

Reading as a whole have many options from an attacking standpoint and have recruited smart additions to bolster their side. The other scorer on Saturday: Ovie Ejaria, who has been made a permanent transfer from Liverpool this year has been a mainstay in this reading side since his loan last year.

Which was only intensified by the fact that he was an important factor in the tie on saturday playing on the left-hand side. Josh Laurent, the midfielder from Shrewsbury has also put in some admirable performances since his arrival that has shown that he belongs at this level.

Defensively, Reading earned their first clean sheet of the season, which was impressively away from home. Not always an easy feat to accomplish. Centre back Liam Moore looks back to his old self, reassured in possession and strong in challenges. This could be a really big season for the former u21 international.

It would seem that this Reading side has amassed a group that may be seen as underdogs for playoff qualification, there is still a lot of games left to be played until we know for certain but so far they’re doing all the right things to reach that milestone.

Barnsley Review – Can Barnsley revive themselves after their disappointing win at Luton?

Barnsley narrowly missed relegation by the skin of their teeth last season on the final day. So the camp has been adamant on making sure such fortune to not befall them once again this season.

However, their start to the current season so far has not been the complete turnaround they were hoping for. They started off in great fashion, producing a 1-0 over Nottingham forest in the Carabao Cup, advancing to the second round,

But last saturday a lot of their hard work was undone, losing to a single goal against fellow relegation survivors Luton Town.

Lining up in their usual set-up of 3-4-1-2, Barnsley struggled to breakdown the midfield of Luton and often left gaps in between the midfield and their backline. Their talisman Cauley Woodrow, was non existent in the game playing as one of two strikers.

The previous match however against Forest he was deployed as the number 10. And he seemed to get the ball and affect the game a lot more often and then he did against luton. Fir Barnsley to come away from games with positive results, Woodrow has to perform week in week out.

Reading v Barnsley Betting Advice

The match already has become a must win for both sides. For the Royals it will go along way to convince their rivals that they are serious contenders this season, So registering a second win on the bounce will do a lot to reinforce that message.

Key Facts – Reading vs Barnsley Betting Tip

  • Lucas Joao has 4 goals and 1 assist in 2 matches
  • Reading beat Barnsley 2-0 last season
  • Cauley Woodrow has 1 goal in 2 games

Barnsley will be determined to get back on the right track after their defeat. Especially when the teams that they were competing with last season to avoid relegation got positive results such as Birmingham.

Last season in the matches between the two sides, Reading came away with 4 points from a possible 6. Scoring 3 goals in the process and conceding just the once. Reading will enter the match knowing what they need to do in order to win again against this side and should their key player perform the same way they did last week it will prove a very hard task for Barnsley to overcome that.
