Reading’s five match run without defeat came to an end away at play-off hopefuls, Ipswich Town last weekend, but The Royals now return to their Madejski Stadium this Saturday where they’ll take on struggling Burton Albion.
The much needed revival under manager Jaap Stam included wins over Barnsley and Sunderland along with taking points off the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and second placed Cardiff City, and the Berkshire outfit now sit in a much more respectable looking 14th place in the Championship.
After a slow start to the new campaign, Reading have also improved their fortunes on home turf where they’ve suffered just one defeat from their last five matches which was an understandable 2-0 loss to league leaders, Wolves, but they’ve become a harder nut to crack on home soil nowadays.
Burton Albion secured a valuable three points last weekend when they recorded a 1-0 win away at fellow relegation candidates, Bolton Wanderers, but The Brewers still sit in the bottom three of the Championship as they travel to Reading looking for back-to-back away wins.
With just two wins from their last 14 matches overall in the second tier, this seems highly unlikely, but their last two wins have been on the road with the other success being a 1-0 win at Millwall back in early November.
And although Burton are capable of springing a surprise on their travels, since they’ve been promoted from League One, The Brewers have registered just six wins from their 34 away matches played at this level – that’s a success rate of just over 17% and they’ve never won back-to-back away matches so far in their Championship history.
