The Championship’s weekend action wraps up on Monday night when Reading take on second placed Cardiff City at the Madejski Stadium with both teams in pretty good form leading up to this clash.
Although Reading come into this encounter sitting in the bottom half of the division in 16th place, The Royals have put together a more promising four match unbeaten run which includes draws with Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday (the former saw them earn a point in a 2-2 draw being 2 goals down), along with back-to-back wins over Barnsley and Sunderland in recent times.
Reading still have plenty of room for improvement though at home where they hold a 3-3-4 11/11 record, but back-to-back clean sheets in their last two on home turf will have pleased manager Jaap Stam, and gives them a base from which to work from.
Visitors Cardiff City may well fancy their chances of getting all three points here in Berkshire as they look to close the five point gap behind Championship league leaders Wolves who could only muster a point in a disappointing 0-0 draw with struggling Sunderland yesterday.
The Bluebirds will also look to put some further daylight between themselves and third placed Bristol City who have emerged as the dark horses of the Championship so far this season, and confidence will be high in the welsh team’s camp as they’ve registered four wins on the trot ahead of this clash.
Wins over Brentford, Barnsley, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City have maintained their push for an automatic promotion spot, while their away record reads a reasonable looking 6-1-3 11/9.
Goals have been in low supply though for both teams, and I’m expecting a tightly fought contest here.
