A case of the boot being on the other foot is very much apparent in the next fixture, as struggling Reading take on a Nottingham Forest side who are within striking distance of the play-off pack, when the two teams meet at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.
Reading finished in third place at the end of the regular Championship season, but they’ll be hard pressed to achieve that feat again this term as The Royals currently sit just two league places and two points above the relegation zone ahead of this evening’s clash. Just one league win from their last eight matches overall will have increased the pressure on manager, Jaap Stam, who will be desperate for his side to stem the flow of recent defeats.
Reading lost yet again at home on Saturday in a dismal 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough with Britt Assombalonga applying the finishing touch, and his former club, Nottingham Forest, will be looking to inflict a fourth home defeat upon The Royals this evening.
Visitors Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are enjoying a much less stressful season this time around following their last day escape from the drop zone at the end of their last campaign, with Forest sitting in the relative comfort of a mid-table position ahead of their trip to Reading.
However, as many Forest fans will agree, inconsistent results always seem to be lurking just around the corner, and this is indicated by their three defeats at home and four losses away from home already this season.
But Forest have managed three wins from their last four matches with wins over Sheffield United, Burton Albion and Hull City, so the momentum appears to be on the visitors’ side heading into this encounter.
