Reading Preview – Will the Ince reign get off to a positive start?

Reading have shown signs of life over the past week. After a battling 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium last Wednesday, the Royals picked up a massive three points last weekend. Goals from Lucas Joao (2) and John Swift earned Reading a 3-2 win at Deepdale.

Shortly after the much-needed three points over Preston, the club announced the sacking of Veljko Paunovic and the appointment of Manchester United legend Paul Ince. Paunovic has left Reading in 21st spot in the Championship table.

With Derby County continuing their fine form under Wayne Rooney, Ince has his work cut out at the Select Car Leasing Stadium. Can he get off to a flying start with three points on Tuesday?

Birmingham City Preview – Can the Blues pick up first away win since October?

Birmingham City are in 18th place after a topsy-turvy season so far. Lee Bowyer’s boys have won nine, drawn ten and lost 14 of their 33 Championship games. The Blues have won just two league fixtures since November.

After going four games without a win, Birmingham have collected four points from their last two. Goals from Juninho Bacuna, Lyle Taylor and Onel Hernandez earned the Blues an excellent 3-0 home win over in-form Luton Town on 12th February. They followed that up with a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Stoke City last weekend.

Birmingham have struggled on the road this season, failing to win on their travels since a 1-0 success at Middlesbrough in October. Can they claim a rare away victory in midweek?

Reading vs Birmingham City Betting Advice

Reading have only picked up nine league wins this term, with one of those coming against Birmingham back in November. Scott Hogan’s third-minute goal gave the Blues an early lead, though two second-half strikes from Jahmari Clarke turned the game on its head in Reading’s favour.

Last season, the Blues did the double over the Royals, winning 2-1 both home and away. Only one of the past 11 meetings has ended all square.

Key Facts – Reading vs Birmingham City Betting Tip

  • Reading’s win at Preston on Saturday was their first victory in 13
  • Birmingham have not won away from home since October
  • Both clubs have taken four points from their last two games

Reading would love to kick on from the weekend win at Deepdale, but this will be a tough first test for Ince. We fancy Birmingham to nick a narrow victory at the Select Car Leasing Stadium. Back the visitors to win by one goal at 10/3.

Lyle Taylor has scored three times in five appearances for Birmingham since joining on loan from Nottingham Forest in January. Taylor is available at 13/2 to score the opening goal of this one.
