Reading Preview – Can the Royals return to winning ways?

Veljko Paunovic suffered his first Championship defeat as Reading boss last week, with his side falling to a surprise 3-2 to Coventry City at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium in Birmingham. Prior to that, the Royals had won seven and drawn one, seeing off Derby County, Barnsley, Cardiff City, Watford, Wycombe Wanderers, Rotherham United and Blackburn Rovers.

League leaders Reading have been exceptional at the Madejski Stadium this season, picking up maximum points from four. Along the way, Reading have scored seven and shipped none. In fact, they are the only team in the Championship yet to concede a home goal.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score

After last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Coventry, Paunovic and his troops will be desperate to get back to winning ways at the first time of asking this Wednesday. The home side are the favourites with the bookies at 6/4.

Preston North End Preview – Neil’s boys to extend unbeaten away run?

Alex Neil’s Preston North End have been like Jekyll and Hyde this season. The Lilywhites have been woeful at home, losing five out of five at Deepdale, scoring one and conceding seven.

However, at the time of writing, Preston are top of the away table, as North End have won three and drawn one of their four away league fixtures. Neil’s side have beaten Brentford, Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield Town in successive away matches. They also edged past Derby County at Pride Park in the Carabao Cup in mid-September.

Preston will be a real force in this division if they can sort out their home form, because away from home they are terrific. Can the Lancashire club leave the home of the league leaders with a positive result in midweek?

Reading vs Preston North End Betting Advice

Despite finishing ten points below in the final standings, Reading did the double over Preston in the Championship last season. A last-gasp Matt Miazga goal gave the Royals a 1-0 win at the Madejski back in October 2019. Then in December, goals from John Swift and Lucas Joao gave Reading a 2-0 victory at Deepdale.

Key Facts – Reading vs Preston North End Betting Tip

  • Reading have a superb recent record in this fixture, winning each of the previous five meetings
  • Defeat to Coventry last Friday was the Royals’ first league loss of the season
  • Preston have lost five out of five at home but have taken ten points from a possible 12 on the road

This truly is a fascinating fixture between the current leaders and the best away team. It could go either way at the Madejski, but we fancy the pair to play out a thrilling draw. Put some money on the draw and both teams to score at 7/2.

Reading’s Joao, who scored when the teams last met, has netted a staggering nine goals in nine league and cup appearances this term. The Portuguese will fancy his chances of scoring in a fifth consecutive Championship match this Wednesday. Back Joao to notch first in this one at 11/2.
