Reading Preview – Another three points for the league leaders?
Veljko Paunovic has taken to life in Championship management like a duck to water. Reading have been sensational so far, winning five of six and dropping just two points from a possible 18. The Royals are sitting pretty at the top, three points ahead of Bristol City and Watford.
Before being held to a 0-0 draw by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium last Saturday, Reading started their Championship campaign with four straight wins over Derby County, Barnsley, Cardiff City and Watford.
The Berkshire club were back to winning ways in midweek, beating Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium thanks to a second-half Lucas Joao goal. Paunovic’s team are the strong favourites to put another three points on the board this weekend, keeping their place at the top of the table in the process.
Reading have looked the real deal so far. Not many would have had the Royals down as promotion candidates before a ball was kicked this season, but the bookies are now pricing them at just 5/1 to book their place in next year’s Premier League.
Rotherham United Preview – Millers to fall to a third Championship loss?
The 2019-20 season was cut short in EFL League One last term, but Rotherham United were promoted as runners-up to Coventry City. The Millers are no strangers to the Championship, though they will be hoping to extend their stay beyond one year this time.
Rotherham made an excellent start, scoring late to beat fellow Championship newcomers Wycombe at Adams Park on the opening weekend. However, Paul Warne’s boys have yet to win since, losing two and drawing three of five.
