Reading Preview – Can Royals bounce back?

Reading have produced a vastly improved start to this new Championship season than previous campaigns as the Berkshire outfit currently enjoy 6th place in the early standings of the English second tier, having won four of their opening seven games of this new term.

The Royals had also recently strung together an impressive three-match winning streak in the second tier following wins against Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough and Millwall respectively although during midweek, Reading’s winning run was brought to an end by a comprehensive 4-0 defeat away from home at Sheffield United.

Nevertheless, Reading will still feel confident about their chances of taking something from this upcoming clash against Stoke City when The Royals return to home soil, especially as the hosts have won their last three home games on the trot as well.

It’s also been a sustained improvement in form at home for Reading who have suffered just the three defeats in each of their last 10 home games whilst also picking up six wins in the process, so the hosts look set to add to their points tally here, especially after beating Stoke City 2-1 in their last meeting at home back in April.

As Naby Sarr suffered a hamstring injury in midweek, Tom McIntyre might return to Reading’s defence for this clash while Baba Rahman is back at the club after rejoining from Chelsea and Shane Long is battling for a recall in attack.

Stoke City Preview – Can Potters scuplt three points?

It’s been another mixed start to this new Championship season for Stoke City and already there has been a managerial casualty in the second tier following the sacking of former Potters boss, Michael O’Neill, with former Sunderland boss, Alex Neil, making the surprising decision to leave the Black Cats for Stoke.

Stoke City certainly need an injection of life if they’re to finally live up to the usual expectations of achieving at least a play-off spot this season and the Stoke fans will be hoping that the arrival of Neil who secured promotion for Sunderland from League One last season, can work his magic again at The Potters this term.

However, having picked up just two wins to date this season by way of wins against Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers, but also slipping to losses against Millwall, Huddersfield Town and ironically, Sunderland, Alex Neil has his work cut out to mould Stoke City into serious play-off challengers.

In addition, Stoke have registered just three wins out of their last 14 outings on the road which also includes seven defeats, one of which was last season’s 2-1 defeat at Sunday’s opponents, Reading.

It is possible that Stoke manager, Alex Neil, will make changes to his starting lineup with forward, Tyrese Campbell, in line for a recall.
