Reading Preview – Can Reading avoid third defeat on trot?
Reading suffered a second defeat on the trot in midweek when they lost 3-0 at home to Preston North End which followed last weekend’s 3-2 defeat away from home at Coventry City, so The Royals will be eager to return to their earlier form in the Championship when they play host to Stoke City in this lunchtime clash.
The hosts had previously put together an impressive eight-match unbeaten run to start their new Championship campaign off in style which included winning seven of these eight matches with notable wins picked up against Cardiff City, Watford and Blackburn Rovers.
Prior to the defeat to Preston, Reading had won all four of their home matches on the trot and had kept clean sheets in each of these victories too, but the possibility of a draw with Stoke City looks reasonable as six of the previous seven meetings against The Potters have ended in stalemate.

A second defeat in three matches for Stoke City has resulted in The Potters dropping down to a mid-table position of 11th place in the Championship after they lost 3-2 away from home at Watford in midweek and they face another tough outing this Saturday lunchtime in Berkshire against Reading.
A previous 2-0 defeat away from home at Swansea City and the loss to Watford were either side of a narrow 1-0 home win over bottom half outfit, Rotherham United, but overall, Stoke City have made a reasonably promising start to this season’s Championship campaign.
Wins away from home though have been sporadic for The Potters as they’ve managed to collect just three wins out of their last 14 matches on their travels, with five of these 14 ending in draws, so the visitors may be happy to settle for a point at Reading here.
