Mark Bowen’s Reading entertain Steve Cooper’s Swansea City at the Madejski Stadium in the EFL Championship on Wednesday night. The Swans could still make the play-offs, but they need rivals Cardiff City to lose at home to Hull City and three points of their own in Berkshire. Still, Swansea will be hoping to do their bit. Check out our betting preview.

Reading Preview – Will the Royals finish with a win?

After a few years of struggle, a mid-table finish is not bad going for Reading. The Royals go into the final day of the season in 15th spot, winning 15, drawing 11 and losing 19 of their 45 fixtures. Reading are 14 points from the play-offs and eight points above the bottom three.

After picking up seven points from three, which includes a stunning 5-0 win at Luton Town, Mark Bowen’s boys go into this one having lost back-to-back games. The Berkshire side were beaten 2-1 at home by Middlesbrough before losing a thriller 4-3 at Blackburn Rovers last time out.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
8/11

Reading have been woeful at the Madejski Stadium since the turn of the year. In fact, they have claimed just one home win since beating Queens Park Rangers on Boxing Day. The Royals have taken a mere point from the last three on their own patch. Only bottom club Hull City have accumulated fewer away points this term.

Swansea City Preview – Can the Swans make it back-to-back wins?

Swansea City still have a glimmer of hope of finishing in the top six of the Championship. The Swans are seventh, three points behind rivals Cardiff City. Steve Cooper’s men need to beat Reading and hope for a favour from Hull, who have picked up just one league win since New Year’s Day. Nottingham Forest are also only three points ahead, but Forest’s goal difference is better than the Swans’.

Swansea have ended their season with three wins from their past five. City kept their play-off hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Bristol City last time out. Prior to that, Cooper’s side were beaten at home by Leeds United before drawing 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Swans have struggled away from home in the second half of the season. Since beating Luton at Kenilworth Road a few days before Christmas, Swansea have only won twice on the road, seeing off Middlesbrough and Birmingham City.

This is Swansea’s second year back in the second tier following relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2017-18 campaign. If they fail to make the top six this year, the Welsh club will surely be among the favourites for promotion next term.

Reading vs Swansea City Betting Advice

Andy Yiadom’s 90th-minute goal rescued a point for Reading when the pair met at the Liberty Stadium earlier in the season. Last term, though, Swansea did the double over the Royals, scoring six times along the way. The Welsh team are unbeaten in 12 in this fixture.

Key Facts – Reading vs Swansea City Betting Tip

  • Only Hull have picked up fewer home points than Reading in this season’s Championship
  • Swansea have won just two away league fixtures in 2020
  • The Royals have not beaten the Swans since September 2008

Swansea will be desperate to do their bit by getting the win on Wednesday. They are asking a lot of Hull, but I can see the Swans taking all three points at the Madejski. Take a punt on the visitors to win and both teams to score at 11/4.
