Wigan Preview – Will Wigan repeat their weekend win and make it back to back league victories for the first time this season?
Wigan finished 12 points clear of the bottom three last season and supporters would have been hoping – if not expecting – their team to be in a similar sort of position this time around. It’s been much more challenging for Paul Cook’s team, however, as the Lactics have been in the relegation zone for much of the campaign. Saturday’s win over Millwall was their third in six matches and they have lost only once during that time but it comes on the back of a real poor run of form before that which seen them win one of 16 league games.
All concerned will be hoping they can continue their revival in form to pull clear of their current position.

Wigan ended last season very strongly by losing just one of their last 13 league games, winning five of them. You sense that a similar sort of end to the season could be enough but that earlier season form has put them in a much more precarious position.
The fact that a win on Wednesday would see them record back to back victories for the first time in the league this season tells it’s own story. But should they prevail it could well be a significant one and see them climb out the bottom three.
