Preview: The pressure is gradually building for Real Betis, who approach their sixth La Liga match of the campaign on the back of one victory in their opening five fixtures and have only a handful of teams currently beneath them in the standings. Can Los Verdiblancos secure a second win of 2019-20 at the expense of poor-travelling Levante?

Real Betis Preview – Hosts under more pressure to secure victory here?

On Friday, Real Betis (EVENS with Bet365) would fail to score in a La Liga fixture for only the first time this season after somehow managing a goalless draw away at Osasuna. It was achieved on the back of a subdued performance spent mainly on the back foot defending, creating very little of note themselves whilst managing to ride their luck on occasions, as the hosts piled on the xG (OSA 2.39 – 0.36 BET). That could turn out to be a vital point, however.

In the short-term, though, it was a point which did little to alter their surroundings in the La Liga table. The club from Andalusia, in Seville, still hover precariously over the relegation spots in sixteenth (W1 D2 L2), having secured the one win thus far. The positive, though, is that they are now currently three unbeaten (W1 D2) following that somewhat fortuitous stalemate last time out. Pressure is gradually beginning to mount on the coach, Rubi.

Four of their five points this season were collected at home, though, including their only win – a 2-1 scoreline against bottom-of-the-table Leganes. Betis were, however, held in their last encounter here, to a 1-1 draw with Getafe in a game which saw key midfielder William Carvalho dismissed, and subsequently suspended for that trip to Osasuna. The Portuguese midfielder was sorely missed, with the midfield at a loss to stop the wave of incoming attacks. So his return is a significant boost.

Levante Preview – Another fruitful day out away to Betis?

This Levante (14/5 with MoPlay) team would regularly put on a show for the neutral in La Liga last season, with matches involving them producing three goals per game on average. That hasn’t really been the case so far this season. It would take them until February to record their first and only 0-0 draw in 2018-19, so perhaps it is telling that they would already chalk up a first such scoreline on only their fifth outing this time around at home to Eibar on Saturday.

Or perhaps not. That encounter with Eibar was very evenly matched but certainly not short of chances (xG: LEV 1.41 – 1.29 EIB), and was a fair result according to Expected Goals. It also extended their overall points tally to seven, enough to place them in the top-half of the league in ninth (W2 D1 L2). However, as impressive as Paco Lopez’s team have clearly been when as the home side, away from home his players are still to earn their first point(s).

There were at least some encouraging signs in their latest away performance, when almost coming from three goals down to earn an unlikely point at Real Madrid (3-2). That was a game whereby both teams created many quality goalscoring opportunities, which was in stark contrast to the much more hushed affair when losing 1-0 away to Alaves on the opening matchday.

Real Betis V Levante Key Facts:

  • Real Betis begin this fixture in 16th-place in La Liga (W1 D2 L2) but having lost none of their last three games (W1 D2).
  • Levante have taken seven points from their opening five league games (W2 D1 L2) to sit ninth in the table, though did lose both away fixtures.
  • Last season’s league meetings were both won by Levante, doing so by an emphatic aggregate of 7-0 – they would win 3-0 at Real Betis.

Betting Summary

To be as low as Real Betis currently find themselves in the league standings simply isn’t good enough for a club which did show some serious ambition in the summer transfer market, recruiting Nabil Fekir and Borja Iglesias among others. Friday’s fortunate draw away to Osasuna did make it three unbeaten (W1 D2), though only one was a win – a not entirely convincing come-from-behind success at home to a still winless Leganes side.

Levante may start this game a lot higher up in the table having registered two more points but, when taking into account performances exclusively on the road, they would sit in the bottom three on zero points (L2). Scoring twice away to Real Madrid in their most recent away fixture would be promising if only it weren’t in a 3-2 losing effort, and when already 3-0 down at the time.

This is a presentable opportunity for Real Betis to notch only a second league win of the campaign, against a Levante team with two away defeats to their name. Goals seems a more realistic prospect however, as although Betis were disappointing in attack in their latest showing, a return to home comforts should perk them up. The visitors, meanwhile, always carry an offensive threat.
