Real Betis – Can Pellegrini’s men avoid fourth successive winless outing?

Los Verdiblancos resume their La Liga campaign still third in the table but only a point clear of Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad in fourth and fifth respectively, after a dismal return of one point from their past three matches. Manuel Pellegrini’s men did at least manage to avoid a third straight league defeat with last week’s 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano – ending a run of fourteen games without drawing a La Liga fixture.

Betis, having previously won four successive league games, can put their recent slump behind them on their return to Benito Villamarin. Only four teams are averaging more goals at home this season than Betis (1.9 per game), returning five wins from the last seven outings in front of their own fans (L2). All five of these victories saw them net at least twice (scored 3+ in four), with four seeing them cover a -1 handicap.

Key Stat: No Real Betis player has scored more often in La Liga this season than Spanish forward Juanmi. The 28-year-old has struck 11 times so far, scoring seven times at home including in four of his team’s last six outings at Benito Villmarin.

Alaves – Fourth-straight away league defeat looming large?

No team is currently enduring a longer wait for their next La Liga win than Deportivo Alaves, whose six-year spell in the Spanish top tier must surely be under threat once again this term. After back to back 16th-placed finishes, the club find themselves down in 18th. They are only a point from safety, but are without a win in the league for over two months since their last-gasp victory at home to bottom side Levante.

El Glorioso have won four of 20 league games this season. Just one (1-0 vs Atletico Madrid), however, was against a side not presently in the bottom five. Moreover, only one was away from home, versus 19th-placed Cadiz. So this is a huge ask for Jose Luis Mendilibar’s charges, whose W1 D2 L6 record on the road is among the worst in the division but comprises creditable showings at Barcelona (1-1) and Sevilla (0-0).

Key Stat: After failing to score in their opening three La Liga away matches, Alaves found the net in five of their next six away league games. This hasn’t stopped them losing each of the last three away fixtures, though, going down 5-2 at Villarreal in the most recent of them.

Real Betis Vs Alaves Betting Advice

If they are to realise their ambitions of playing in the Champions League once more, these are the fixtures Real Betis simply have to win. Playing at home, where they are W5 L2 across their past seven La Liga outings at the Benito Villamarin, Betis are expected to make light work of an Alaves team currently winless in eight league games (D4 L4) and coming off three consecutive away losses.

Real Betis Vs Alaves – Key Facts:

  • Victory at Mendizorrotza in November made it three consecutive La Liga victories over Alaves for Real Betis, who won last season’s corresponding fixture 3-2 at Benito Villamarin.
  • However, Real Betis have never won successive home league games versus Alaves. They do, though, boast five victories across their last seven home La Liga outings (L2).
  • The cause for a home win is strengthened further by Alaves’ run of three consecutive away defeats coming into this fixture. Only Getafe and Levante have accrued fewer away points this season meanwhile (W1 D2 L6).

This may not necessarily be straightforward for the hosts, however. Six conceded across their last three league fixtures suggests they are vulnerable while they have kept just one clean sheet from their last six at home in La Liga. Meanwhile Alaves are looking to score for the sixth away game in seven. Considering each of Betis’ last four home victories saw Over 2.5 Goals in the match, that bet is appealing at 6/4.
