Preview: There are three teams who remain unbeaten so far in Spain’s La Liga, and we are fortunate enough to have two of them in action at the Santiago Bernabeu here. Hosts Real Madrid have fared the better, collecting 11 points to occupy second spot in the standings, with Osasuna further back in ninth with seven points under their belts. Will the final outcome accurately reflect the league table?

Real Madrid Preview – Zidane’s men honing in on top spot?

Los Blancos were very publicly reprimanded for their rotten performance in Paris last week, when losing by three clear goals to PSG in the Champions League. If they are to be verbally punished for not performing to the standards befitting of such an illustrious club then it is only fair we applaud them when they do get it right. Which is what they did in their very next outing – Karim Benzema notching his fifth league goal of the season to earn Real Madrid (1/4 with Betway) a deserved win at Sevilla.

The final scoreline may not have been emphatic in Seville (0-1), though Real unquestionably created enough to warrant the three points (xG: SEV 0.62 – 1.31 REA). There were also some takeaways from that game. The first being Karim Benzema, who would continue his fine form domestically and has now scored in four of five league games this season. Combining the Frenchman with a home victory could be one method of extracting value from the hosts’ slim odds.

That effective display against previously top of the table Sevilla was also the first instance this season, in any competition, that Real had managed to preventing an opposing team from scoring, as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois kept his first clean sheet in La Liga since February. Those who believe a defence which has conceded versus Celta Vigo (1), Real Valladolid (1), Villarreal (2) and Levante (2) will now go on to record a second successive Win To Nil can get odds of 6/5 with BetVictor.

And finally, that result last time out ensured Real Madrid climbed up to second in La Liga (W3 D2). Not bad for a team seemingly in crisis with every passing week, with under-fire manager Zidane no doubt breathing a little easier.

Osasuna Preview- Another stoic effort to be expected?

The best team from the league below in 2018-19 have made the transition between Liga 2 to La Liga appear seamless, even if they haven’t always earned the results their performances have often richly deserved. Drawing 0-0 with Real Betis at home on their latest league appearance was another case in point, dominating proceedings (xG: OSA 2.39 – 0.36 BET) but unable to find a winning goal to match another impressive display collectively.

On the positive side of things, Osasuna (12/1 with Betfair) did pick up a third clean sheet of the season – to go with ones earned against Eibar (0-0) and Leganes (0-1) – while only champions Barcelona have breached their goal on more than one occasion so far, doing so in a 2-2 draw in Pamplona which, based on the balance of play, was a harsh result on last season’s Liga 2 champs.

Now for the cons, because there are a few despite there being no doubt that their start to the season has been overwhelmingly positive. It is now four straight draws in the league, and while Los Rojillos were the better side on every occasion – often by a huge margin – it remains their lack of a cutting edge in the final which continues to negate all the otherwise positive work.

Only once, against Barca, has Jagoba Arrasate’s side managed to breach the opposing defence on more than one occasion, averaging precisely a goal per game thus far. Defensively, however, they continue to be rock-solid and resolute and should once again be a very stubborn unit to break down.

Real Madrid V Osasuna Key Facts:

  • Real Madrid have made an unbeaten start to the 2019-20 La Liga season (W3 D2), earning a credible 1-0 win at Sevilla last time.
  • Osasuna are also still to lose a league fixture this season (W1 D4) but have not secured a winning outcome since their opening match.
  • The previous five meetings were all won by Real Madrid, who were 5-2 victors on the last occasion they would host Osasuna in league action.

Betting Summary

Surprisingly impressive in their latest league assignment, deservedly overcoming a very difficult opponent in the shape of then-league leaders Sevilla 1-0, Real Madrid should be in fairly buoyant mood ahead of this game. At home, though, they are still to convince – taking the lead in both encounters, versus Real Valladolid and Levante, and contriving to draw with the former and almost doing the same with the latter when winning 3-2 despite comfortably leading 3-0 at one stage.

Well-drilled and extremely resolute in defence but relatively toothless up top. Osasuna have impressed upon returning to Spain’s top tier, going unbeaten so far (W1 D4) and producing some dominant displays. The one criticism would be an inability to convert some promising displays into more points, specifically winning efforts. Did hold Barca to a 2-2 draw earlier, or should I say Barca held them, because Osasuna were much the better side.

The head-to-head is not pretty for Osasuna, who have been beaten in the most recent five meetings – some of those were ugly, too – and have not recorded a win since a 1-0 scoreline at home in 2011. We can only judge them on their recent efforts however, to which they have been superb and should, at the very least, compete and make life difficult for Real Madrid, who are far too short in price.
